Jinju City Expands Loan Support for SMEs in Response to Middle East Crisis
Scope of Affected Companies Expanded Starting the 13th… Up to 1.1 Billion Won and 3.5% Interest Difference Subsidy
On the 11th, Jinju City announced that it will expand the scope of 10 billion won in loans from the SME Development Fund starting on the 13th to support local businesses struggling due to high oil prices and rising raw material costs resulting from the worsening situation in the Middle East.
This measure was prepared to actively support the management stability of the local industrial sector by expanding the scope of support beyond the existing focus on export companies to the Middle East to include businesses suffering actual damages, such as decreased sales and deteriorating profitability.
The expanded eligibility includes companies with export records to the Middle East, as well as those whose sales have decreased by more than 20% compared to a comparative period, those whose value-added ratio has decreased by more than 5%, and those whose direct import/export performance accounts for more than 20% of total sales.
Following this support from Jinju City, there is growing anticipation that companies suffering indirect damage—such as rising raw material and component prices or increased logistics costs—will also be included in the support program, even if they do not directly trade with the Middle East.
Affected companies can receive support of up to 1.1 billion won, within 1.5 times the existing loan limit. Along with a four-year grace period and lump-sum repayment terms, they will be able to alleviate their financial burden through an annual interest differential subsidy of 3.5%.
Applicants must submit additional supporting documents specific to the type of damage, in addition to the existing required paperwork. Companies experiencing a decline in sales must attach VAT returns and certificates of tax base, while import/export companies must submit performance certificates and declaration certificates.
An official from Jinju City stated, "We determined that broader support is necessary as the number of companies suffering direct and indirect damage due to the prolonged crisis in the Middle East is increasing," adding, "We will respond swiftly and multifacetedly to corporate damage resulting from changes in the international situation."
