Jecheon City Selected for Ministry of Employment and Labor’s ‘Regional Ecosystem Revitalization Project by Strategic Sector’

Securing 750 Million Won, Establishing a ‘Labor Integration Business Model Based on Social Economy’

Jecheon City announced on the 27th that it was finally selected for the ‘Regional Ecosystem Revitalization Project by Strategic Sector’ competition organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Through this competition, the city has secured a total of 750 million won (530 million won in state funds and 220 million won in provincial funds) and plans to intensively foster a ‘labor integration business model for young people to settle in aging rural areas.’

This project aims to go beyond simple job creation by combining employment models tailored to regional characteristics with solutions to local problems, with the goal of ensuring the stable settlement of young people in the region and forming an economic community.

Key initiatives include: ▲ operating mechanized farming units to train young professional agricultural technicians; ▲ developing food products utilizing village production resources and local specialties; ▲ simplifying the distribution structure of food products; and ▲ producing promotional content and building brands through local creators. The city expects this project to foster an inclusive circular ecosystem that enhances the sense of belonging among young migrants and resolves generational barriers. Furthermore, the city plans to allocate a portion of the project's proceeds to a "Youth Settlement Fund" and establish a "profit-sharing cooperative" to lay the foundation for young people to settle stably in the region even after the project concludes.

A city official stated, "This project is highly significant in that it demonstrates how rural regions facing extinction define their own problems and work together with social economy organizations to resolve them." The official added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the Jecheon-style rural business model, where young people and elderly farmers coexist, becomes a model example for the nation."
