Jecheon City’s June Sports Events 'Bountiful'... Over 6,100 Visitors Expected for 8 Tournaments

Jecheon City, North Chungcheong Province, is setting out in earnest to revitalize the local economy through sports marketing by hosting a series of diverse national and provincial-level sports competitions throughout the month of June.

Jecheon City announced that it expects approximately 6,100 athletes and amateur sports enthusiasts to visit the region as a total of eight tournaments—including basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, hockey, inline hockey, and volleyball—will be held during June. In particular, with a long 13-day schedule for the National Hockey Tournament, a large-scale youth soccer tournament, and national amateur volleyball and soccer tournaments scheduled in succession, it is expected to inject substantial vitality into local commercial districts, impacting accommodation, dining, and transportation.

The June sports schedule opens with the ‘2026 Bada Cup Basketball Tournament Hoseo Region Preliminaries.’ Approximately 300 participants will compete in this tournament, which will be held at the Myeongji National Sports Center for two days from June 6 to 7. Following this, the ‘38th President’s Cup National Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition’ will take place at the Jecheon Gymnasium from June 11 to 13, with around 500 rhythmic gymnastics athletes and officials from across the country expected to visit Jecheon.

In mid-June, large-scale soccer and hockey tournaments will take over. From June 12 to 14, the ‘5th Dream Camp Youth Soccer Tournament, 2nd Round,’ with approximately 2,000 participants, will be held at the Jecheon Soccer Center. During the same period, the ‘69th National Hockey Championship,’ a representative domestic hockey tournament, will open at the Cheongpung Myeongwol International Hockey Stadium and embark on a 13-day journey that will continue until the 24th. With approximately 900 hockey players from across the country staying in the region for an extended period, expectations are high for a significant economic ripple effect.

Following this, the ‘2026 President’s Cup Korea Inline Hockey Championship’ will be held at Jecheon Gymnasium from June 17 to 20, with a delegation of around 300 players participating.

The excitement does not subside in late June. From the 20th to the 23rd, the ‘2026 Jecheon Righteous Army Middle School 1st Grade Soccer Festival’ will be held, with about 800 participants. On the weekend of the 27th and 28th, the ‘4th Cheongpung Myeongwol Uirimji Cup National Amateur Volleyball Tournament’ (800 participants) and the ‘7th Cheongpungho Cup National Amateur Soccer Tournament’ (500 participants) will be held simultaneously, heating up Jecheon.

Jecheon City plans to take every precaution to ensure the safety of players and visitors, given the concentration of large-scale tournaments during the summer. We plan to strengthen safety management measures, including inspecting stadium facilities, establishing a response system for early heatwaves, and preparing emergency response plans, to help participants compete with peace of mind.

Choi Seung-hwan, Acting Mayor of Jecheon, expressed his expectation that teams and enthusiasts from across the country will visit Jecheon in June to revitalize the local economy. He stated that he would do his utmost to ensure the safe operation of the tournament, prioritizing safety above all else, so that participants can return home with fond memories.
