시민연대는 지난 27일 오전, 광주광역시 소재 민주당 광주시당 앞에서 집회를 열고 정 대표의 즉각적인 퇴진과 사과를 요구했다. 이날 집회 현장에는 전북 지역 시민단체와의 연대 소식까지 전해지며 긴장감이 고조되었다.
김범태 상임대표는 이날 발언을 통해 투쟁의 지속성을 강조했다. 김 대표는 “우리는 안 하면 안 했지, 중간에 그만두는 일은 없다”며 단호한 입장을 밝혔다.
