Jeonnam Animal Health Laboratory Conducts Intensive Inspections for Livestock Diseases During the Transitional Season
Concerns Over Weakened Immunity Due to Large Daily Temperature Fluctuations of Over 10°C… Intensive Inspections Until Early May - Analyzing Respiratory and Diarrheal Diseases to Present Effective Prevention and Treatment Measures
(Gangjin = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = With the transitional season recently characterized by day-night temperature differences exceeding 10°C, the Jeonnam Animal Health Laboratory has launched a preemptive response to minimize damage from livestock diseases.
The Jeonnam Animal Health Laboratory announced that it will conduct intensive inspections for livestock diseases until early May, judging that the risk of respiratory and digestive diseases is high due to weakened immunity in livestock caused by the increasing number of days with large daily temperature fluctuations resulting from the influence of migratory high-pressure systems.
The inspections will focus on respiratory diseases and diarrhea, which are common during the transitional season. In particular, the plan is to not only confirm disease infections but also present effective preventive measures and customized treatment plans for each farm through precise analyses, such as antibiotic susceptibility testing.
Last year, the laboratory focused on preventing the spread of livestock infectious diseases, including conducting precise inspections on over 1,700 samples submitted by farms and early detecting 28 cases of statutory infectious diseases such as tuberculosis.
Jeong Ji-yeong, Director of the Jeonnam Animal Health Laboratory, urged, “To prevent diseases during the changing seasons, thorough biosecurity measures such as disinfecting livestock barns, along with providing sufficient nutrition and creating a pleasant barn environment, are of the utmost importance.” He added, “If suspected symptoms of livestock infectious diseases are discovered, please report them immediately to quarantine agencies such as cities and counties.”
