Jeonnam Provincial Police Commission Joins Hands with Related Agencies for ‘Prevention of Crimes with Abnormal Motives and Traffic Safety’

Holds 1st Working-Level Consultation Meeting of 2026 on the 12th... Discusses Establishment of Public Security Infrastructure and Ordinance Revisions - Strengthening Policy Cooperation Closely Close to Residents, Including Reduction of Traffic Accidents Involving the Elderly and Activation of Multilingual Safety Apps

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Provincial Police Commission has set out to strengthen its public security cooperation system with related agencies to create a safe Jeonnam that residents can truly experience.

The Jeonnam Provincial Police Commission announced that it held the ‘1st Working-Level Consultation Meeting of 2026’ at the Jeonnam Provincial Office on the 12th and discussed major public security issues, such as the prevention of crimes with abnormal motives—which have recently emerged as a social problem—and the reduction of traffic accidents involving the elderly. Representatives from six relevant agencies closely involved in autonomous police affairs, including the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency and the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, attended this council meeting, which was co-chaired by the Secretary General of the Committee and the Head of the Life Safety Department of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, to explore practical collaboration measures.

At the meeting, the focus was primarily on "public security infrastructure construction projects," such as the installation of intelligent CCTVs to prevent crimes driven by suspicious motives. Additionally, active cooperation from related agencies was sought regarding the promotion of the "Multilingual Safety Jeonnam" app, which provides public security and disaster information in 10 languages for foreign residents.

In particular, practical administrative support measures to protect crime-vulnerable groups were also discussed. The Committee shared amendments to relevant ordinances aimed at preventing harm to residents, such as the installation of emergency call buttons in single-woman shops, and agreed to join forces with relevant agencies.

Traffic policies reflecting regional characteristics were also given significant attention. To prevent traffic accidents involving the elderly and agricultural machinery, which have recently been on the rise, the council decided to implement multifaceted measures to reduce fatalities, including expanding elderly protection zones, increasing protection zones for village residents, and strengthening traffic safety education. Jeong Gyeong-chae, Secretary General of the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Commission (and Co-Chair of the Working Council), urged, “The measures derived from this council meeting must not remain merely as discussions but lead to practical collaboration among agencies,” adding, “I ask for the continued participation and cooperation of relevant agencies so that this can serve as a solid stepping stone for the safety of the provincial residents.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Working Council operates regularly to ensure the smooth execution of autonomous police affairs and to break down barriers between related agencies, serving as a control tower that provides region-specific policing services.
