Jeonnam Provincial Council Closes 398th Extraordinary Session… Accelerates 'Support for People's Livelihood Economy and Preparations for Integrated Council'

35 Agenda Items Processed, Including Ordinance on Delimitation of City and County Council Electoral Districts… Chairman Kim Tae-gyun: "Doing Our Best to Support People's Livelihoods Amid High Oil Prices and Prepare for the Launch of the Integrated Special City Council"

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Provincial Council has concluded its 10-day extraordinary session and has set out to take full-scale steps to resolve pending issues regarding people's livelihoods and prepare for regional integration.

On the 30th, the Jeonnam Provincial Council held its second plenary session and concluded the 398th extraordinary session by processing a total of 35 agenda items. During this session, various ordinance bills closely related to the daily lives of provincial residents were reviewed and approved, including the amendment to the "Ordinance on Electoral Districts and the Number of Council Members per District for City and County Councils in Jeollanam-do," which reflects the revisions to the Public Official Election Act passed by the National Assembly on the 18th. In his closing remarks, Chairman Kim Tae-kyun urged for swift administrative action to support the livelihoods of the people suffering from high oil prices and the economic downturn. In particular, he requested thorough guidance to ensure that emergency support funds are promptly executed without omission for sectors that have been directly hit, such as the transportation and travel industries.

Furthermore, to revitalize small business owners—the capillaries of the local economy—he emphasized the need to proactively implement measures to alleviate financial burdens and boost consumption, including expanding support for credit guarantee fees and interest subsidies, promoting "Goodwill Advance Payments," and increasing discount rates for local gift certificates.

A concrete vision for the "Administrative Integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju," a key regional issue, was also presented. Chairman Kim pointed out the urgent need to restore competitiveness and transform the structure of key industries in the eastern Jeonnam region, which are facing a complex crisis. He stressed that support for the eastern region's industries must be reflected as a core task during the administrative integration process. In particular, regarding the integrated special city scheduled to launch this coming July, he stated, "Clear principles regarding the integrated council's building and operational system must be established prior to the launch," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure a stable launch of the council, centering on the council's 'Administrative Integration Response Task Force.'"

Chairman Kim Tae-kyun concluded the session by emphasizing, "With the resolve that the Jeonnam Provincial Council serves as the last line of defense protecting the lives of the provincial residents, we will continue responsible legislative activities with an even humbler attitude."
