South Jeolla Province Recruits Companies for ‘Youth Hope Job Support Project’… Up to 60% of Labor Costs Supported

Guaranteed Youth Wage Raised to 120% of Minimum Wage… 2 Million Won Incentive Provided to Both Companies and Youth

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province announced that it is promoting the ‘Jeonnam Youth Hope Job Support Project’ to expand employment opportunities for local youth and alleviate the hiring burden on companies, and is recruiting participating companies until May 19.

This project is a South Jeolla Province-led job initiative that supports labor costs for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or social economy enterprises that newly hire unemployed youth. It has been ongoing since last year to ensure there is no gap in youth employment even after government-funded projects end.

In particular, starting this year, support criteria have been significantly strengthened to improve the treatment of youth and encourage corporate participation. The guaranteed wage for youth has been raised from 110% to 120% of the minimum wage, and the labor cost subsidy ratio for companies has been increased from the existing 40% to 50%.

Depending on the support conditions, companies will receive a monthly subsidy of 1.29 million won per youth for one year (50% of the guaranteed monthly wage of 2.58 million won). In particular, if companies hire "youth facing employment difficulties"—such as those with a high school diploma or lower, graduates of the Youth Challenge Support Program, youth with borderline intellectual disabilities, or youth preparing for self-reliance—the subsidy ratio will be expanded to 60%, providing a maximum monthly payment of 1.55 million won.

Mechanisms have also been established to encourage long-term employment. If a hired youth works for more than one year and maintains or is converted to a regular employee status, the plan is to enhance employment stability by providing an incentive of 2 million won each to the company and the youth. In addition, settlement support programs, such as job training and community activities to help with on-the-job adaptation during the initial hiring period, will be implemented in parallel.

Eligible companies are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and social economy enterprises within the province with five or more permanent employees, while "youth" refers to unemployed individuals aged 18 to 49 residing in Jeonnam (standards vary by city/county ordinance).

Companies wishing to participate should submit their applications via email to the Jeonnam Small and Medium Enterprise Job & Economic Promotion Agency by May 19. Final selections will be made following document review and evaluation. Young job seekers can apply for positions at the selected companies through the Jeonnam Job Information Network starting May 26.

A Jeonnam Provincial official stated, "We hope this project will provide high-quality jobs for young people and offer substantial assistance to local companies facing labor shortages," adding, "We will establish a comprehensive support system that extends from recruitment to long-term employment."
