전남도는 오는 24일 영암 국제자동차경주장(KIC)에서 레이스, 음악 공연, 다채로운 체험 행사가 결합한 ‘2026 아시아 모터스포츠 카니발’이 개최된다고 밝혔다.
지난 2014년 첫선을 보인 ‘아시아 모터스포츠 카니발’은 아시아 지역 간의 모터스포츠 문화 교류를 도모하는 국내 대표 복합형 스피드 축제다. 단순한 경주대회를 넘어 공연, 체험, 전시 등을 한자리에서 즐길 수 있어 매년 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.
이번 대회에는 국내 최상위 클래스인 ▲토요타 가주 레이싱 6000을 비롯해 ▲GT4(고성능 양산차) ▲서킷스토리 아카데미 GTA·GTB ▲금호 M(BMW) ▲알핀(프랑스 스포츠카) ▲프리우스 PHEV(일본 하이브리드) ▲래디컬 컵 코리아(영국 레이싱 전용차) 등 총 8개 종목, 107대의 차량이 출격해 치열한 레이스를 펼친다.
특히 대회 최고 인기 종목인 ‘토요타 가주 레이싱 6000’은 올 시즌 변화를 시도해 관람 재미를 대폭 끌어올렸다. 주행 거리를 기존 95㎞에서 157㎞로 대폭 늘린 것은 물론, '의무 피트스톱(Pit Stop)' 제도를 새롭게 도입했다. 이에 따라 타이어 교체 타이밍과 피트 체류 시간 등 팀별 전략 요소가 경기 흐름을 바꾸는 핵심 변수가 될 전망이다.
올해 카니발은 음악 공연의 규모를 대폭 확대해 대중성을 더했다. 유명 음악 축제인 ‘파크뮤직페스티벌’과 연계해 서킷을 뜨거운 축제의 장으로 만든다.

장영철 전남도 기업도시담당관은 “이번 대회는 그동안 스피드 마니아들의 전유물로 인식되어 온 모터스포츠를 온 가족이 함께 즐길 수 있는 대형 대중 축제로 확장한 것”이라며 “모터스포츠가 국내 대중화를 넘어 하나의 매력적인 K-콘텐츠로 성장할 수 있도록 적극적인 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 강조했다.
