Jeonnam Office of Education Sends 806-Student Delegation to 55th National Junior Sports Festival… ‘Challenge Toward Dreams’

Participating in 38 Sports Including Track and Field and Swimming… Expectations High for Performance in Major Events, Including Gwangyang Jungang Elementary School Soccer – Last Competition Before the Integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju… “Learning the Value of Challenge and Growth Beyond Results”

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeollanam-do Office of Education is dispatching a large delegation to the ‘55th National Junior Sports Festival,’ which will be held in Busan from the 23rd to the 26th, to support the bold challenges of future athletic talents.

The delegation representing Jeonnam in this competition consists of 806 student athletes from a total of 159 schools. They plan to compete in a total of 38 sports, including track and field, swimming, soccer, taekwondo, and wrestling, and will generously showcase the skills they have honed through hard work and dedication. In particular, outstanding performances and medal acquisitions are anticipated in traditionally strong disciplines, such as Gwangyang Jungang Elementary School's soccer, Sachang Elementary School's swimming team, Naju Middle School's shooting, and Korea Baduk Middle School's Go.

The Jeonnam Office of Education has spared no multifaceted support to ensure student athletes can focus on training and maximize their performance in a stable environment. They executed the "Annual Operating Budget for School Athletic Teams" early, which includes competition entry fees, vehicle rental fees, training expenses, and equipment costs. Additionally, they operated customized sports psychology counseling programs to help athletes achieve psychological stability and boost their confidence.

Furthermore, by expanding a virtuous cycle student athlete development system linked with community-based sports clubs and the Jeonnam Public Youth Sports Club—moving beyond elite sports centered on school athletic teams—the Office is actively driving the expansion of the sports base and the balanced growth of students.

This competition holds special significance as it marks the final stage where athletes will compete under the name of their respective regions prior to the integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju. The student athletes are determined to deliver performances without regret on this final stage representing Jeonnam, creating moments of valuable growth and inspiration. The Provincial Office of Education plans to firmly maintain its top-tier national competitiveness by further solidifying partnerships between school athletic teams and local sports clubs even after the merger, expanding sports science and psychological support, and establishing a systematic nurturing system for outstanding athletes.

Koo Yong-hyeok, Head of the Physical Education and Health Division at the Provincial Office of Education, offered words of encouragement, stating, “The National Junior Sports Festival is a precious stage where our student athletes learn the true value of challenge and growth, going beyond simply competing for victory or defeat.” He added, “As this is an important time for Jeonnam and Gwangju to prepare for a new future together, I hope the athletes will do their utmost until the end and fully showcase their skills.”
