Jeonnam Office of Education Successfully Concludes Digital Media & AI Literacy Teacher Training

Strengthening 'Digital Literacy' in the 2022 Revised Curriculum… Practice-Oriented Education Including Short-Form Production and Fact-Checking - "Will Help Students Identify Fake News and Grow into Independent Citizens"

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeollanam-do Office of Education has completed intensive training aimed at strengthening teachers' ability to utilize digital media and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as their critical reception capabilities.

The Jeonnam Office of Education announced that it conducted the "Digital Media & AI Literacy Teacher Job Training" for teachers in the province at the Gwangju Citizens Media Center from May 30 to June 6.

This training was organized to ensure the successful implementation of "digital literacy" education, a core task of the 2022 Revised Curriculum, in the field. The focus was on helping teachers critically understand the rapidly changing AI and media environment and to cultivate the teaching ability to creatively apply this to actual classes. The main programs of the training consisted of core concepts and characteristics of media and AI literacy, lesson design applying the Jeonnam AI utilization guidelines, and the sharing of practical fact-checking examples from actual school settings.

In particular, this training received a great response for introducing a practical course where teachers directly planned, filmed, and edited "short-form" content, which is currently the most popular form of consumption among students. By moving beyond simple theoretical education and directly producing media containing public interest messages, the training aimed to strengthen practical teaching capabilities tailored to the students' perspectives and sensibilities.

One teacher who participated in the training shared their thoughts, saying, "By directly producing the short-form format that students are enthusiastic about, I gained a deep understanding of media language." They added, "I will help students grow into proactive citizens who can identify fake news on their own within the classroom and utilize digital tools to convey social values."
