First CSAT Since Launch of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Office of Education… “All-out Effort to Minimize On-site Confusion and Ensure Stable Operation”

Simultaneous Events Held for Approx. 330 Officials in Jeonnam and Gwangju Regions… Applications Accepted for 10 Days Starting August 24… Cash Payment for Exam Fees Completely Abolished and Smart Glasses Prohibited — Existing 8-Test District System Maintained Despite Launch of Integrated Office of Education… “Phased Integration Planned”

(Break News Jeonnam-Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Office of Education has stepped up on-site support ahead of the application period for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) for the first time since the launch of the integrated office.

On the 12th, the Integrated Office of Education held the ‘2027 Academic Year College Scholastic Ability Test Detailed Implementation Plan and Application Briefing’ for officials from test district education support offices and high schools. This briefing was organized to reduce on-site confusion that may occur during the CSAT application process and to ensure stable test operations.

The information sessions were conducted separately by region. For the Jeonnam region, the session was held simultaneously at the Suncheon Bay Eco-Culture Education Center performance hall for 250 application reception staff, while for the Gwangju region, it was held at the former Gwangju Education Research and Information Center for 80 participants.

The application and modification period for the 2027 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) is a total of 10 days, from Monday, August 24 to Friday, September 4 (excluding Saturdays and public holidays). Applications are processed by test district; as a general rule, current students must apply at their school, graduates at their alma mater, and those who have passed the GED at the test district governing their current registered address.

However, graduates whose registered address and alma mater are located in different test districts, or whose address and alma mater are situated in different administrative districts within the same test district, may also apply at the test district governing their current address. When applying for a change to the application, applicants must revisit the location where they initially submitted their application.

The information sessions were held separately by region. Applications must be submitted in person as a general rule; postal applications are not accepted. However, proxy applications are permitted for limited categories, such as persons with disabilities, incarcerated individuals, military personnel, hospitalized patients, and overseas residents (excluding travelers), provided that supporting documents and a family relationship certificate are attached.

Applications are divided into online pre-registration and on-site completion. Candidates using the online pre-registration method must pay the fee during the pre-registration phase and then visit the on-site registration center to complete identity verification and submit supporting documents in order to receive a receipt. Applicants for test accommodations, foreign candidates, and candidates without means of identity verification must complete the application form in person at the site.

Notably, starting this year, cash payment of the examination fee will be completely abolished and standardized to credit cards, virtual accounts, and simplified payment methods through payment processing agencies. The fee is charged differentially based on the number of selected subject areas: 37,000 KRW (4 subjects or fewer), 42,000 KRW (5 subjects), and 47,000 KRW (6 subjects). Examinees from low-income families (such as recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program and those in the statutory near-poverty group) are exempt from fees.

Despite the launch of the Integrated Metropolitan Office of Education, the system of eight test districts (seven in Jeonnam and one in Gwangju) will be maintained for the time being. This measure takes into account the structure of the CSAT information system and the differences in on-site conditions between the two regions; the Office of Education plans to pursue phased integration following a comprehensive review in the future.

Major changes aimed at improving examinee convenience and fairness will also be applied to this CSAT. The embossing of photos on application forms will be abolished, and an official provisional scoring sheet in a nationwide standard format will be printed on the back of the test admission ticket. Additionally, "smart glasses" have been newly added to the list of prohibited items in test centers, and eligibility for online score reports will be expanded from graduates to include current students.

The exam will be held on November 19, 2026, and scores are scheduled to be notified to examinees on Friday, December 11, following the grading process. An official from the Integrated Metropolitan Office of Education stated, “As this is the first year of the Integrated Office of Education’s launch, we will make meticulous preparations to ensure smooth operations without any information gaps between officials in Jeonnam and Gwangju,” adding, “We will cooperate closely with the district education support offices and schools to ensure the stable operation of the exams.”
