Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Conducts On-site Inspection of New Schools in Jangseong Advanced Technology District 3… "All-out Effort for Timely Opening and Guarantee of Learning Rights"
Director of Administrative Operations Lee Seon-guk and City Councilor Jeong Gi-seong Visit Construction Site of (Tentative Name) Sandong Elementary and Middle Schools - Discussion on Accelerating Construction, Timely Infrastructure Development, and Measures for Temporary Placement and Commuting Support During Initial Occupancy
(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education visited the site of new schools in Jangseong Advanced Technology District 3 to conduct an intensive inspection of preparations for opening and the progress of construction.
The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced that on July 29, they visited the construction sites of the (Tentative Name) Sandong Elementary School and Sandong Middle School, to be built in Jangseong Advanced Technology District 3, to verify the progress of facility construction and infrastructure development, and to discuss measures for student placement.
This inspection was organized to prevent issues regarding student capacity caused by the gap between the timing of apartment move-ins and school openings, and to strengthen the cooperative system with relevant agencies. Key officials, including Lee Seon-guk, Director of the Administrative Operations Bureau of the Jeonnam Gwangju Office of Education, and Jeong Gi-seong, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Jangseong 2), attended the site.
On this day, the attendees inspected the status of essential infrastructure construction, such as access roads to the construction site and electricity and water supply systems, while comprehensively reviewing the safety management practices at the site. The Office of Education plans to expedite the construction process to ensure the school opens without delays and to coordinate the development of surrounding infrastructure with the school's construction schedule in cooperation with relevant agencies, such as the Gwangju Urban Development Corporation, to proceed without disruption.
Director Lee Seon-guk emphasized, "Even if construction proceeds smoothly, delays in infrastructure development could disrupt the overall opening schedule," adding, "It is of utmost importance to comprehensively manage both the construction process and infrastructure development through close cooperation with relevant agencies."
Council member Jeong Gi-seong officially proposed the formation of a consultative body involving relevant agencies, including the Office of Education, the project implementer, and the construction company. Representative Jeong stated, "A comprehensive cooperative system is necessary to jointly respond to difficulties arising during the construction process through regular communication."
In addition, the Office of Education explored measures to minimize the infringement of students' right to learn and commuting inconveniences that may occur between the move-in to the apartment complex and the opening of the school. They decided to secure temporary placement facilities by comprehensively reviewing the spare classrooms and capacity of nearby schools and to establish commuting support measures early on.
An official from the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan Office of Education said, "Based on the results of this inspection, we will strengthen consultations with relevant agencies to shorten the construction period and thoroughly manage the site to ensure infrastructure is completed on time," adding, "We will also promptly finalize measures for temporary placement and commuting support for the incoming students."
