Gwangju Metropolitan City Draws Blueprint for ‘Asian Culture Hub City 3.0 Era’
Research Service Kick-off Meeting Held at Kim Dae-jung Convention Center on the 28th; Analysis of Past 20 Years of Achievements and Convergence of Future Technologies such as AI… Seeking Improvements to Laws and Systems and Expansion of Spatial Scope
(Break News Gwangju, Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Integrated Gwangju Metropolitan City has officially embarked on establishing a new future vision aligned with the digital and AI era, building upon the achievements of the Asian Culture Hub City development project that has been pursued for over 20 years.
On the 28th, the Integrated Gwangju Metropolitan City held the ‘Research Service Kick-off Meeting for the Conception of the Asian Culture Hub City 3.0 Era’ at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju. At the briefing session held on this day, a large number of officials attended, including Kim Won-joong, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Creation of an Asian Cultural Hub City, representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Asian Cultural Hub City Promotion Team, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, five autonomous districts, and related organizations. They engaged in an in-depth exchange of opinions regarding the future direction of the research and key tasks.
This research project, conducted by the Gwangju Institute, is being undertaken to comprehensively analyze the achievements and limitations of the Asian Cultural Hub City Creation Project implemented from 2004 to 2025 and to establish systematic management measures.
In particular, this research focuses on establishing policy visions and strategies for the "Asian Cultural Hub City 3.0 Era" to respond to rapidly changing domestic and international environments, such as the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, digital transformation, and climate change. By evaluating existing efforts to create a cultural city environment, promote the arts, foster the culture and tourism industries, and strengthen cultural exchange capabilities from various angles, the study plans to present detailed implementation tasks, performance indicators, financing methods (state funds, private investment, funds, etc.), and proposals for legal and institutional improvements to leap forward as a world-class cultural city. In addition, the project will analyze the cultural integration achievements and functional connectivity resulting from the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City to expand the spatial scope of the project, and will also重点 review mid-to-long-term development strategies befitting the new administrative system.
During the research process, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City plans to gather diverse voices from the culture and arts community and citizens by holding expert advisory meetings, forums, and workshops. Furthermore, it intends to establish a cooperative framework with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Committee for the Creation of an Asian Culture Center to actively reflect the results of this research in the revision process of the government’s "4th Comprehensive Plan" and to identify new projects.
Chairman Kim Won-jung of the Committee emphasized, "The Asian Culture Center Creation Project has been a national project that has solidified Gwangju's cultural foundation over the past 20 years," adding, "Now is the time to prepare for the 'Asian Culture Center 3.0 Era,' where artificial intelligence (AI), cultural technology, and the cultural industry converge, based on the achievements made so far."
