전남광주특별시는 3일 ㈜유일조선해양 본사에서 목포시, 한화시스템, ㈜유일조선해양과 ‘무인수상정 자율운항산업 거점 구축 및 국방 해상무인체계 고도화 산업 육성 업무협약’을 체결했다.
무인수상정은 승조원 없이 원격조종이나 인공지능(AI) 기반 자율운항 기술을 통해 수면 위를 운항하는 선박으로, 미래 해군력과 해양 안보의 핵심 전력으로 꼽힌다.
이번 협약에 따라 각 기관은 목포시 삽진산단 등을 중심으로 무인수상정의 ▲연구개발(R&D) ▲건조 ▲시험·실증 ▲유지·보수·정비(MRO)로 이어지는 전주기 산업생태계를 공동 구축하기로 뜻을 모았다.
통합특별시는 이번 협약을 발판 삼아 지역 조선산업의 제조 역량과 최첨단 방산·자율운항 기술을 결합, 해상무인체계 산업을 지역의 새로운 미래 성장동력으로 적극 육성할 방침이다.
특히 최근 정부가 발표한 ‘서남권 5극3특’ 성장엔진산업에 자율운항선박이 포함됨에 따라, 육상 모빌리티의 AI 자율주행 기술과 지역 조선 인프라, 도서지역의 우수한 실해역 시험 환경을 유기적으로 연계해 자율운항선박 산업을 차세대 핵심 전략산업으로 집중 육성한다.
