Jeonnam-Gwangju Grand Transformation Planning Committee Accelerates ‘Innovation in Living Conditions’… “Will Create a Unified Special City Where Companies and Talents Gather”
Chairperson Jeong Eun-seung Begins Full-Scale On-Site Visits to Education, Culture, and Transportation – Emphasizes, “World-class Companies Move Based on Quality of Life… Simultaneously Establishing Industry and Living Conditions”
(Break News Gwangju·Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam-Gwangju Grand Transformation Planning Committee (hereinafter the Grand Transformation Planning Committee) is accelerating innovation in living conditions, including education, culture, and transportation, to lay the foundation for the successful launch and overwhelming growth of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Unified Special City.
The Grand Transformation Planning Committee believes that moving away from existing growth strategies centered on creating industrial complexes and attracting companies, and instead creating an urban environment where companies and talents can voluntarily stay, is the key to the success of the Unified Special City. Accordingly, the committee is currently concretizing future growth strategies through the collection of opinions from experts in various fields and on-site visits.
Chairman Jeong Eun-seung has recently been visiting sites in the fields of culture, transportation, and education in succession to explore concrete measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the Integrated Special City.
First, on the 21st, he visited the National Asian Culture Center to discuss ways to secure urban competitiveness by utilizing cultural and tourism resources. (Photo) At the meeting, Chairman Jeong emphasized, “Advanced technology must go hand in hand with art,” adding, “The imagination of artists leads the city, and technology must support the realization of that imagination.” The Committee for the Great Transformation agreed that culture is a core competitive advantage that attracts businesses and talent, and plans to actively incorporate a cultural city strategy into the vision of the Integrated Special City.
The construction of a wide-area transportation network that links Gwangju and Jeonnam into a single living and economic zone is also being pursued as a key task. On the 18th, Chairman Jeong met with transportation experts to discuss the establishment of a wide-area transportation system and measures to strengthen connectivity within the living zone. The plan envisions enhancing the mobility convenience of citizens and maximizing the efficiency of business activities by connecting the entirety of Gwangju and Jeonnam into a single daily living zone.
Cooperation in the education sector is also set to gain momentum. On the 22nd, Chairman Jeong is scheduled to visit the Transition Committee of Kim Dae-jung, the Superintendent of Education for the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju City, to discuss strategies for future education and talent development, and to explore ways to establish an organic educational cooperation system to attract global companies.
Chairman Jeong Eun-seung stated, “World-class companies do not come simply because of industrial complexes. Companies follow people, and people move based on education, culture, transportation, and quality of life.” He added, “To make the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City the best growth city in Korea where companies and talent gather together, we will organically develop industrial infrastructure and living conditions simultaneously.”
Moving forward, the Great Transformation Planning Committee plans to formulate a development strategy that comprehensively links industry, transportation, culture, education, and the living environment. Furthermore, it intends to finalize and concretize the Great Transformation tasks that will allow citizens to experience tangible changes in their lives from the very beginning of the Integrated Special City’s launch.
