‘Green Light’ for Jeonnam-Gwangju Education Integration… Heads of Directly Affiliated Agencies United in Unity

Council Meeting Held on the 24th… Discussing Development Directions in Preparation for Education Administration Integration After 40 Years

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Heads of directly affiliated agencies under the Jeollanam-do Office of Education have put their heads together to ensure the successful settlement of the Jeonnam-Gwangju education administration integration, which is taking place for the first time in 40 years.

The heads of the 12 directly affiliated agencies of the Jeollanam-do Office of Education held a council meeting at the Jeollanam-do Office of Education Research and Information Center on the 24th to discuss ways to strengthen support for the education field and establish an efficient administrative system following the launch of the ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.’

This council meeting was organized in line with the ‘Special Act on the Establishment of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City,’ which is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026. This marks the first time that directly affiliated agencies, encompassing all fields of education from early childhood education to lifelong learning, have discussed specific directions for collaboration following the integration. Heads of directly affiliated agencies and officials from the Jeonnam-Gwangju Education Administration Integration Promotion Team attended the meeting to share the current status of preparations by each agency. In particular, the participants reached a consensus that the integration must go beyond a mere physical merger of organizations and generate tangible synergies that can be felt in the educational field.

Key discussion points included: measures to strengthen functional linkages and cooperation among directly affiliated agencies; directions for the enactment and amendment of local ordinances (ordinances, rules, etc.) following the integration; and inspection tasks for establishing development directions for each agency.

The participants decided to focus their efforts on devising "student-centered" operational plans to provide closer support to schools amidst the changing educational environment following the integration.

An official from a directly affiliated agency emphasized, "Directly affiliated agencies serve as the backbone of Jeonnam education, providing the closest support to schools," adding, "We will make meticulous preparations to ensure that the city-province integration results in better educational benefits for students and parents." The Jeonnam-Gwangju Education Administration Integration Promotion Team also stated, "Through this consultative meeting, the foundation for communication between the Promotion Team and the affiliated agencies has been further strengthened," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the integration of education administration provides solid support for school education by reflecting the voices from the field."

The affiliated agencies of both education offices plan to continue building a partnership based on mutual respect and cooperation, and will join forces to minimize administrative gaps resulting from the integration process and improve the quality of educational services.
