Jeonnam Police Operate ‘Smart Edutech Crime Prevention Class’... Customized Communication for International Students Draws Attention
Combining Direct Chinese Lectures with Real-Time Web Quizzes... Conducted for Over 100 International Students at Sehan University in Yeongam
(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Regional Prevention Patrol Unit of the Crime Prevention Response Division at the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced that it successfully operated the ‘Smart Edutech Crime Prevention Class’ to help foreign students in its jurisdiction settle stably into the local community and to proactively prevent crime.
This training, conducted on April 10 and 24 at the International Exchange Center of Sehan University in Yeongam for approximately 100 Chinese international students, is evaluated as having overcome the limitations of traditional rote learning by maximizing the expertise of the officers in charge.
The most significant feature is that the officers in charge conducted the lectures directly in Chinese without the need for separate interpreters. By delivering prevention guidelines for major crimes to which international students are vulnerable—such as drug offenses, traffic crimes, and voice phishing—in the original language, the effectiveness of information delivery was enhanced. Furthermore, the credibility of the education was secured by narrowing the psychological distance between the police and the students.
In particular, the introduction of a "web-based quiz platform" built directly by police officers during this training session drew attention. By allowing international students to participate in quizzes in real-time and check results immediately using their smartphones on-site, the training increased interest and engagement in what could otherwise have been a tedious session.
This approach, utilizing Edu-Tech, enabled two-way communication, dramatically improving the effectiveness of the education.
The Metropolitan Prevention Patrol Unit plans to standardize this training model and expand its application to other universities within its jurisdiction and to foreigners of various nationalities. Through this, they aim to prevent crimes involving foreigners in the region and build a more comprehensive security network.
An official from the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency stated, "We will continue to carry out various prevention activities that combine the latest technology with the professional capabilities of the police to adapt to the changing security environment."
