Eumseong County Signs MOU with 5 Agencies to Improve Living Environments for Vulnerable Veterans

Eumseong County has established a public-private partnership to improve the living environments of vulnerable veterans within its jurisdiction who are exposed to cold waves and heatwaves caused by climate change, and to alleviate their energy cost burden.

Eumseong County announced on the 22nd that it signed a "Business Agreement for Supporting Energy Efficiency Improvement Projects for Vulnerable Veterans" at the Eumseong Senior Club with the Northern Chungbuk Regional Office of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Sejong-Chungbuk Regional Headquarters of the Korea Human Resource Development Institute, the Eumseong Senior Club, and the Korea Energy Foundation. This agreement was established to pool the expertise and resources of each agency to prioritize the provision of customized energy welfare to national merit recipients and their families.

The core of the project involves reducing energy loss by reinforcing insulation and installing new windows in aging homes, as well as replacing old boilers and distributing high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Through these measures, the county plans to support residents in living safely amidst the climate crisis by improving the energy efficiency of their residential environments. Under the agreement, Eumseong County is responsible for identifying eligible recipients through on-site surveys and providing administrative support, while the Northern Chungbuk Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs handles the coordination of veterans. The Korea Energy Foundation prioritizes the allocation of recommended households to the project and provides support for construction and equipment.

Additionally, the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for the Elderly provides consulting on the coordination and operation of senior employment programs, and the Eumseong Senior Club manages job participants and conducts status surveys. In particular, as this project is being implemented in conjunction with senior job creation initiatives, it is expected to achieve a dual benefit of supporting veteran families and employing local seniors.

Eumseong County Governor Jo Byeong-ok stated that honoring veteran families who have dedicated themselves to the nation is a social responsibility, and pledged to cooperate with relevant agencies to create an environment where veteran families can live with peace of mind regardless of the season.
