Okcheon County Continues Community Sharing Practices to Welcome Spring

Across Okcheon County, warm acts of sharing for neighbors and volunteer activities for the local community are continuing to welcome spring, adding to the heartwarming atmosphere.

The Okcheon County Senior Welfare Center (Director Oh Jae-hoon) announced that it held the "Youth Sharing Lunch Box Filled with Spring" event in collaboration with the Okcheon County Federation of the Korea Lifestyle Improvement Association. This event was organized as part of a resident organizing project to deliver lunch boxes and donated goods to 120 vulnerable households in the region.

The lunch boxes consisted of seasonal spring ingredients, such as ssam밥 (rice wrapped in lettuce) made with butterbur and red chard, gimbap (Korean rice rolls), and miso soup. A total of 11 types of donated goods, including gomtang (beef bone soup), ramen, and seaweed, were also provided. Notably, local organizations and residents directly participated in every step, from preparing ingredients to cooking, packaging, and delivery, adding further meaning to the act of sharing.

Okcheon County This activity involved participation from various local sponsors, including the Okcheon County Federation of the Korea Rural Development Association, L-Mart Co., Ltd., Gyodong Food, KG Planning, Cheongsan Dental Clinic, Woori Gas Station, and members of the Support Association for the Deaf. The event was meticulously prepared to allow the elderly to enjoy a warm spring along with an abundance of food.

Around the same time, four facilities affiliated with the Jeonseok Welfare Foundation (Chairman Jeong Yeon-wook) in the Okcheon region also held a "plogging" volunteer activity to mark the 33rd anniversary of the foundation's establishment. Approximately 80 employees from the Okcheon Senior Club, Okcheon County Welfare Center for the Elderly, Okcheon County Welfare Center for the Disabled, and Okcheon County Sheltered Workshop for the Disabled participated in the activity.

Divided into seven groups, the participants walked a section of about 2km through the Okcheon-eup area, contributing to the local environment by collecting trash and debris. This activity was conducted with the aim of practicing mutual prosperity with the local community, going beyond a simple commemorative event, and is continuing as an ongoing social contribution initiative. An official stated, “Both the lunchbox sharing and environmental cleanup activities share the common significance of being practical actions for the local community,” adding, “We will continue to spread a warm community culture through cooperation between the public and private sectors.”

Meanwhile, Okcheon County plans to continuously strive to resolve welfare blind spots and revitalize the local community through various sharing and volunteer activities involving residents and institutions.
