The village of Bobal 1-ri in Gagog-myeon, Danyang-gun, is set to undergo a complete transformation through a large-scale project to improve living conditions. Danyang-gun announced that Bobal 1-ri in Gagog-myeon was finally selected for the '2027 Improvement of Living Conditions in Vulnerable Areas' public contest, jointly organized by the Presidential Committee on Local Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

With this selection, the county has secured 1.371 billion won in state funding. Accordingly, the county plans to invest a total of 2.011 billion won over four years, from 2027 to 2030, to fully implement projects including the renovation of aging housing, improvement of living and sanitation infrastructure, and resident capacity building in the Bobal 1-ri area of Gagog-myeon.

The Improvement of Living Conditions in Vulnerable Areas is a national public contest project designed to enhance the quality of life for residents by improving the environment of rural villages where overall living conditions, such as housing, safety, and sanitation, are poor. Bobal 1-ri in Gagok-myeon, selected as the project site, has long been identified as an area in urgent need of residential environment improvement, with 68.2% of its houses being over 30 years old and 52.3% consisting of slate-roofed homes.

From the initial preparation stage, the county meticulously investigated the village's current status and actively gathered residents' opinions to establish a project plan tailored to the region. This systematic preparation and the urgency of the project received high marks, ultimately leading to its final selection in the competition.

Moving forward, the county plans to focus on renovating aging residential environments and improving living infrastructure, while also operating resident capacity-building programs to ensure residents can live in a safe and pleasant environment. Furthermore, based on the results of this competition, the county has decided to further strengthen its responsiveness to future national public competition projects by conducting a comprehensive survey of the aging status and evaluation indicators of all 155 administrative villages within its jurisdiction to proactively identify villages with high potential for future applications. An official from Danyang County stated that this result is the outcome of systematic preparations made by residents and the administration to improve the poor living conditions in the village, and added that the county will continue to do its utmost to secure national funding and promote projects to improve the residential environment and enhance the quality of life for residents in vulnerable rural areas.

Meanwhile, Danyang County has been continuously implementing the project to improve living conditions in vulnerable areas since 2016, and with the selection of Bobal 1-ri in Gagog-myeon, the number of project sites has increased to a total of eight villages.
