Goesan County Selected for Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' 'Agriculture & Rural RE100 Demonstration Support Project'

Creation of a 'Carbon Neutral Energy Self-Sufficient Village' Based on Clean Renewable Energy in Sari-myeon

Goesan County has achieved a remarkable feat by being finally selected for the 2026 Agriculture & Rural RE100 Demonstration Support Project, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The Agriculture & Rural RE100 Demonstration Support Project is a state-funded initiative designed to establish sustainable carbon-neutral leading villages by significantly transitioning electricity and energy sources used in rural villages to eco-friendly clean renewable energy, such as solar power, while simultaneously carrying out insulation work on aging facilities.

Goesan County will invest a total of 1.786 billion won in project funds over the next three years, comprising 918 million won in state funds and 823 million won in local funds secured through this selection. In partnership with the Baekma Regional Sunlight Power Cooperative, a full-scale demonstration project for energy self-sufficiency is set to launch in the project site, the Jungheung and Daegi villages of Sari-myeon.

Key initiatives include the construction of resident-led village renewable energy power plants, the installation of solar panels for self-consumption on individual homes and agricultural processing and distribution facilities, the remodeling of community facilities such as village halls to improve energy efficiency, and multifaceted consulting for diagnosing village-level energy usage.

If the project is successfully completed, it is expected to not only significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also drastically lower the burden of electricity and heating costs for individual farm households through self-generation and the prevention of heat loss. Furthermore, profits generated from the operation of the village power plants will be returned to support energy-vulnerable groups and contribute to a village development fund, thereby enhancing resident welfare.

Song In-heon, Mayor of Goesan County, stated that based on the securing of state funding, clean rural villages in Goesan will be reborn as a nationwide standard model leading energy independence and carbon neutrality. He further announced plans to firmly establish an eco-friendly rural energy welfare system that residents can experience in their daily lives, including reduced heating costs and the return of power generation profits.

Starting with this project, Goesan County plans to concentrate its administrative efforts on creating a sustainable rural environment by reviewing the expansion of eco-friendly energy infrastructure to other rural areas within the county.
