60 Works by Local Art Prodigies Selected Under the Theme of ‘Peace’… Touring Exhibition at Gwangju Museum of Art and Shinsegae Gallery

(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The ‘2026 Gwangju Student Art Exhibition,’ a venue for discovering artistic talent in the Gwangju region, has successfully concluded amidst high interest from local students.

Sponsored by Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. and marking its third year, the competition wrapped up its journey with an awards ceremony held at the Gwangju Museum of Art on the 2nd.

This year’s exhibition received submissions from elementary, middle, and high school students in the Gwangju region through online applications starting April 1st. Following the themes of ‘Dream’ in 2024 and ‘Travel’ in 2025, a series of creative and diverse works were submitted under the theme of ‘Peace’ this year. In particular, the event received positive evaluations for enhancing fairness and differentiation by additionally holding an on-site sketching competition for those who passed the first round of submissions.

The 60 final winning works, selected through a rigorous screening process, will be unveiled to the local community. The first exhibition will be held at the Gwangju Museum of Art from May 2 to 10, followed by a relocation to the Gwangju Shinsegae Gallery from May 13 to 19 to welcome visitors.

Celebrating its 31st anniversary this year, Gwangju Shinsegae has fully supported this competition to foster mutual growth with the local community. Launched in 2024, the Gwangju Student Art Competition has grown in substance each year, establishing itself as a leading "art festival" for aspiring local artists.

Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, stated, "Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of local students, this year's competition was even more enriching and meaningful." He added, "As a local subsidiary, Gwangju Shinsegae will continue to carry out cultural and artistic sponsorship activities that local residents can truly experience."
