Gwangju City and K-water Yeongseom River Basin Headquarters Join Hands for ‘Win-Win Cooperation in the Water Sector’ to Respond to Climate Crisis

Meeting Held on the 14th… Strengthening Cooperation Framework Including Introduction of Water Supply Accident Crisis Response System - Headquarters Director Kim Il-yung: “We Will Do Our Best to Establish a Stable Water Supply System Where Citizens Can Feel Safe”

(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Gwangju Metropolitan City Waterworks Headquarters and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) Yeongseom River Basin Headquarters have joined forces to address the climate crisis and ensure a stable supply of tap water for citizens.

The Gwangju City Waterworks Headquarters announced that it held a ‘Business Cooperation Meeting to Strengthen Win-Win Cooperation in the Water Sector’ (pictured) at the Water Comprehensive Situation Room of the K-water Yeongseom River Basin Headquarters on the 14th.

This meeting was organized to proactively prepare for water disasters and emergencies in the waterworks sector amidst the recently intensifying climate crisis, and to establish a close cooperative system between the two organizations to stably supply clean tap water to citizens without interruption. Approximately 10 officials from both organizations attended the meeting, including Kim Il-yung, Head of the Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters, and Kim Seon-ho, Head of the Yeongseom-Seom River Basin Headquarters.

During the meeting, discussions focused on ways to utilize the "One Click Water Accident Crisis Response System," which was developed and is currently operated by the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water). This system is a program designed to maximize initial response capabilities by deriving optimal, customized response measures in real-time—such as deploying water tankers and activating emergency linked facilities—when emergencies, such as water pipeline accidents, occur.

Both organizations reviewed specific plans to efficiently apply the system to Gwangju City's pipeline system and engaged in in-depth discussions regarding mutual response cooperation measures in the event of water disasters and ways to strengthen the initial response system for water accidents.

Kim Il-yung, Head of the Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters, stated, "Close cooperation between organizations is essential to proactively respond to natural disasters caused by the climate crisis and unpredictable accidents." He added, "We will do our utmost to establish a stable water supply system that citizens can always drink with peace of mind by further solidifying our cooperative framework with K-water."
