Gwangju City Recruits 10th Cohort of 'Pre-Premium Small Giants' to Lead 'Global Leap'
Applications accepted until May 28... Total capacity expanded to 25 companies to strengthen growth ladder; intensive nurturing for two years through customized commercialization and financial support; expected to become a key pillar of the regional economy
(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Gwangju Metropolitan City is accelerating efforts to discover promising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will be responsible for the future of the regional economy. The city announced that it is recruiting companies until May 28 for the '10th Pre-Premium Small Giants Nurturing Project,' which selects and provides intensive support to companies possessing unrivaled technological capabilities and growth potential.
The 'Pre-Premium Small Giants Nurturing Project' is Gwangju City's flagship business support program designed to help deeply rooted local SMEs leap forward into companies with global competitiveness. Designated companies will receive full support from the city for two years and grow into key pillars driving the regional economy.
In particular, this year the total number of companies under management has been significantly expanded from the existing 20 to 25 to proactively identify local enterprises with high growth potential. In this recruitment round, considering the 7 existing designated companies whose terms are set to expire, the plan is to ultimately select a total of 12 companies, including both new designations and extensions.
Eligible applicants are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with at least three years of business history whose headquarters and business sites are located in Gwangju Metropolitan City as of the announcement date.
Detailed requirements include: ▲ sales revenue of 1 billion KRW or more but less than 5 billion KRW for the manufacturing sector, and ▲ sales revenue of 500 million KRW or more but less than 1 billion KRW for the knowledge service industry. Additionally, to encourage technology-based growth, the selection targets companies that have invested 3% or more of their sales revenue in Research and Development (R&D) over the past three years.
The selection process is conducted in stages to ensure fairness and objectivity. After reviewing basic requirements through a first-round document screening, a second-round presentation screening and on-site evaluation will be carried out. The selections will be finalized following a final review by the Steering Committee in July, and selected companies will be awarded a designation certificate and an accreditation plaque.
Selected companies will receive concentrated practical benefits necessary for growth. First, "customized commercialization support" tailored to the companies' needs will be provided, ranging from product planning and prototype production to design development, marketing, and product enhancement.
Financial and administrative support will also be significantly strengthened. The loan limit for Gwangju City's Business Stabilization Fund will be increased from the existing 300 million won to 500 million won, and management burdens will be alleviated through various tax benefits and administrative support. The designation period is two years, and it can be extended once based on a performance evaluation.
The city expects this project to go beyond simple support and complete a systematic path for "Pre-Premium Small Giant Companies" to grow into "Luxury Small Giant Companies," and further to become "Regional Innovation Leading Companies" and "Global Small Giant Companies" overseen by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Oh Young-geol, Director General of the Economic and Startup Bureau of Gwangju City, emphasized, “We will pour all our capabilities into supporting promising local companies with growth potential so that they can confidently compete on the global stage, beyond the domestic market,” adding, “We hope for active participation from passionate companies that will open new avenues for the regional economy.”
Meanwhile, companies wishing to apply can visit the Enterprise Development Team at Gwangju Technopark or submit their applications by mail. Detailed information regarding the recruitment can be found in the Notices and Announcements section of the Gwangju City website or on the Gwangju Technopark website.
