Gyeongnam Province Presents Transportation and Logistics Blueprint for 9th Elected Administration… Promoting '1-Hour Living Zone' and Transportation Cost Reduction

Pushing for Introduction of Express Buses and Further Bridge Toll Reductions… Fostering Jinhae New Port and Gimhae as Global Logistics Hubs

Gyeongnam Province is embarking on the expansion of its metropolitan transportation network and the creation of logistics hubs, presenting "Reducing Time, Lowering Costs, and Expanding Opportunities" as the policy direction for transportation and logistics during the 9th elected administration.

On the 21st, Gyeongnam Province announced its operational direction for the transportation and logistics sectors at the provincial government briefing room. The province stated that it plans to establish a "1-hour living zone" within the province through the introduction of Gyeongnam-style express buses and the expansion of railway and road networks, while simultaneously alleviating the burden of transportation costs and establishing global logistics and business hubs.

The province will first introduce Gyeongnam-style express buses in stages starting in 2027. The buses will operate primarily on routes connecting Gyeongnam with Busan, Ulsan, and major hubs within the province, and the plan is to accelerate the introduction by utilizing the intercity bus system. Starting in the second half of this year, target routes will be finalized through consultations with relevant agencies and expert committees.

The expansion of the railway network will also continue. We will push for the inclusion of the Dongdaegu-Changwon-Gadeokdo New Airport high-speed railway in the national plan, and continue major projects such as the preliminary feasibility study for the Moonlight Railway, the commencement of construction on additional sections of the Southern Inland Railway, and the establishment of a master plan for the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan metropolitan railway. In the road sector, the goal is to construct an East-West 4-axis and North-South 5-axis metropolitan transportation network and open the entire Hamyang-Ulsan Expressway by 2027.

Policies to alleviate the burden of transportation costs will also be implemented in parallel. A transfer discount system linked with the Gyeongnam Pass will be applied to metropolitan express buses, additional toll discounts will be offered for the Machang Bridge, and toll reductions for the Geoga Bridge will be pursued by securing state funding. The plan also includes reducing logistics costs by improving road bottleneck sections.

Establishing a logistics infrastructure to strengthen industrial competitiveness was also presented as a key task. An advanced logistics and industrial city will be established behind the Tri-Port, which links Jinhae New Port, Gadeokdo New Airport, and railways. Additionally, the development of a global advanced logistics and business city spanning approximately 9 million pyeong in the Hwamok-dong area of Gimhae is being pursued. At Sacheon Airport, plans are underway to expand the passenger terminal and install Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities to meet the demand of the aerospace industry.

Park Seong-jun, Director General of the Transportation and Construction Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, stated, "In the 9th term, we will leverage the transportation and logistics infrastructure built during the 8th popular election to translate tangible mobility convenience for residents and regional economic growth." He added, "We will ensure the smooth implementation of the introduction of express buses and key transportation network projects to achieve results such as reduced travel times, lower transportation costs, and increased investment and job creation."
