[Break News Gyeonggi South = Suwon Reporter Lee Hyun-jun] The Gyeonggi Provincial Library regularly operates the "Reading with Your Butt" challenge every fourth Saturday of the month from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM to foster reading habits in the daily lives of residents and spread a reading culture.
The challenge takes place at the Camping Zone on the 3rd floor of the Gyeonggi Provincial Library and the Gyeonggi Book Path under three rules: no use of digital devices, no distractions, and reading only.
Participants can experience immersive reading by focusing on books in the Reading Zone, and then move to the Distraction Zone or Recording Zone to share their reading time and reviews.
A total of 104 people participated in the challenge, which was first held last April in conjunction with Library Day events; participants enjoyed the experience of gathering together and immersing themselves in books rather than competing.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Library plans to continue operating the challenge until December of this year to strengthen its role as a hub for reading culture. Reading points are awarded to participants, and reading merchandise is provided to those who participate five or more times cumulatively. On June 27, a special challenge is also scheduled to take place in conjunction with the Silent Reading Club, a reading group led by Kim Ji-eun, CEO of the one-person publishing house Soseosa.
The operation of this regular challenge is expected to be effective in providing a healthy, immersive reading environment where people can distance themselves from digital devices such as smartphones amidst their busy daily lives and focus solely on books.
