Geoje Jisepojinseong Fortress, Lavender and Coreopsis in Full Bloom… Breathtaking Spring Flower Scenery Along the Walls
Jisepojinseong Fortress in Irun-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, is attracting tourists with its spring flower scenery featuring a harmonious blend of purple lavender and golden coreopsis.
Established in 1441 during the 23rd year of King Sejong's reign in the Joseon Dynasty, Jisepojinseong Fortress is a historical and cultural heritage site built to defend against Japanese pirates. It took on its current form after being reinforced in the 21st year of King Seongjong's reign.
Since 2018, Geoje City has been improving the surrounding environment within the cultural heritage protection zone without damaging it, and has created a flower garden spanning approximately 10,600 pyeong by utilizing fallow land within the fortress.
Currently, lavender and coreopsis are in full bloom around the fortress walls, creating a wave of flowers along the slopes. In particular, the scenery where the fortress walls blend with the Geoje sea is considered the site's representative attraction.
Jiseopjinseong Fortress is utilized as a four-season tourist resource, showcasing seasonal floral landscapes starting with lavender and coreopsis in the spring, followed by verbena and hydrangeas in the summer, and spider lilies in the autumn.
Lee Young-sil, Director of the Geoje City Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "We will continue to manage the site as a space where visitors can experience both history and natural scenery."
