'Aspiring Medical Professionals' Stepping Out of the Classroom... Daegu Health College Shares Warmth in Goryeong

A special "Healthcare Campus" was set up for one day in a small provincial village with weak medical infrastructure. Students who have honed their theoretical and practical skills at the university visited medical blind spots to check on the health of residents, putting regional co-prosperity into practice.

Daegu Health College announced that it conducted the "2026 Summer Basic Health (Medical) Support Volunteer Activity" on the 24th at the Anlim-ri Village Hall in Sangnim-myeon, Goryeong-gun, North Gyeongsang Province. This activity was planned to help improve the health of local residents with limited access to medical care and to alleviate the medical gap within the region.

On that day, a total of approximately 50 professional personnel were deployed to the site, including faculty and students from eight departments—Nursing, Physical Therapy, Clinical Pathology, Optometry, Dental Technology, Dental Hygiene, Health Administration, and Beauty Coordination—as well as specialists in Rehabilitation Medicine and nurses from Daegu Health College Hospital. Members of the Tongil Rotary Club also joined as support staff, contributing to the provision of meals and medical supplies.

On this day, the participating volunteers provided customized benefits utilizing their respective fields of expertise, ranging from basic health checkups to rehabilitation, pain management, vision, oral health, and hygiene care, as well as support for daily vitality.

Residents who visited the site expressed high satisfaction. Kim Jeong-su, the head of Anlim-ri, said, "In a rural village where it takes a great deal of effort just to visit a hospital, I felt immense gratitude that the students came in person and cared for us kindly, treating us like grandparents."

Kim Kuk-beom, a sophomore in the Department of Physical Therapy who participated in the volunteer work, also shared his thoughts, stating, "Seeing the knowledge I learned from books at school actually help residents in the field allowed me to deeply realize the direction I must take and the sense of mission I must fulfill as a healthcare professional."

The university evaluated this volunteer activity as an opportunity to realize the value of field-oriented education, going beyond a simple one-time event. Executive Vice President Kim Young-jun emphasized, "The virtuous cycle of sharing the university's professional capabilities with the local community while students learn practical skills and character simultaneously is the model of regional co-prosperity that the university aims for," adding, "We will continue to expand major-linked volunteer activities that consistently reach out to medically underserved areas."

Meanwhile, for this event organized by Daegu Health College's Daldalbit Volunteer Corps and the Daldalbit Sharing & Collaboration Center, local related organizations, including the university hospital, the Goryeong-gun Public Health Center, and Tongil Rotary Club, collaborated in various ways. Daegu Health College stated that it will fulfill its role as a university specializing in health and medical care by expanding practical programs that connect professional capabilities with the local community.
