PeopleBio has entered the semiconductor equipment refurbishment sector through a strategic alliance with SYSTA, aiming to enhance profitability and create a robust new growth avenue.
On Monday, the company announced a collaborative venture with SYSTA, a specialist in restoring pre-owned semiconductor equipment, marking its official market entry. This initiative strategically builds a solid base for R&D in its biotech focus, while fostering synergies with forthcoming IT and edge data center projects.
Semiconductor refurbishment is more than resale; it consists of meticulous repair, modification, and enhancement of aging systems for new production lines, creating substantial value. Industry experts note refurbishment yields profit margins often above 20 percent.
SYSTA, PeopleBio’s partner, reported revenue of 16.7 billion won ($11.3 million) and operating profit of 4.1 billion as of the end of 2024, reflecting an operating margin of 24.7 percent. This business model enables PeopleBio to pursue stable cash flow and improved financial health.
PeopleBio will phase in workforce expansion and order fulfillment to underpin the new venture. It targets recording refurbishment segment earnings as early as the second quarter, aiming to return to operating profit within the year.
A PeopleBio spokesperson stated, “Reliable profits from the semiconductor equipment venture will underpin a mid-to-long-term turnaround in our core biotech enterprise. This initiative advances our competitive edge in future industries grounded in advanced technology data.”
PeopleBio aims to leverage this initiative to mitigate financial risks early and expedite its transformation into a convergence platform company focused on biotech, IT, and data center technologies.
