The KOSPI closed at 7847.71, up 32.12 points, or 0.41%, from the previous day’s close of 7815.59.
Samsung Electronics’ planned strike on the 21st was suspended after a tentative labor agreement, and analysts said that eased concerns about disruption to semiconductor production and helped support a rebound in the stock.
Geopolitical risk in the Middle East also appeared to be easing, as Trump said ceasefire talks with Iran were in their final stage. One analyst noted that this could temporarily pull down long-term Treasury yields and calm market anxiety, while also reducing the elevated short-term inflation expectations and the term premium built into long-term rates.
Hyundai Motor Securities said investor sentiment is recovering on hopes for a U.S.-Iran ceasefire and the Samsung Electronics bonus agreement, with gains led by semiconductors, robotics, power equipment, and large electronic parts stocks, while domestic-demand sectors lagged the broader market.
