LS Eco Energy announced on May 14 that its Haiphong production subsidiary, LS-VINA, will supply power cables for a mega-scale AI data center construction project by Viettel Group, Vietnam’s largest telecommunications company.

This project is one of the largest AI infrastructure projects in northern Vietnam, being built to a total scale of 60MW in a new city near Hanoi. This capacity is equivalent to the power used simultaneously by 40,000 to 50,000 households and is being developed to meet the expanding demand for generative AI and cloud services.

Following its recent supply of Busducts and transmission cables to hyperscale AI data centers being built by global big tech companies in Indonesia and Malaysia, LS Eco Energy is expanding its influence in the Southeast Asian AI data center market by participating in this Vietnamese project.

The products supplied this time will be used for the power grid connecting the data center and the substation. As AI data centers experience a surge in power consumption and heat generation due to the operation of GPU-based high-density servers, a stable power supply and a highly reliable power distribution infrastructure are considered key competitive advantages.

In the Southeast Asian data center market, investment demand is diversifying to Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam due to power and land limitations in Singapore. It is assessed that with the proliferation of generative AI causing a surge in power demand, Vietnam is now seriously entering the competition to become an AI data center hub.

As the number one cable company in ASEAN, LS Eco Energy is strengthening its market dominance and anticipates opportunities for additional projects in line with Viettel’s expansion of AI and telecommunications infrastructure investments in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, in response to the growing demand from AI data centers, the company plans to strengthen not only its existing power solutions but also its optical cable production capabilities.

Lee Sang-ho, CEO of LS Eco Energy, stated, “The AI data center market is expanding from a competition over servers to a competition over power and communication infrastructure,” adding, “We will strengthen our push into the global AI infrastructure market, focusing on ultra-high-voltage cables and power and optical communication solutions for data centers.”
