LG Chem announced on April 27 that its specialty PVC (polyvinyl chloride) material, ‘HRTP (Heat-resistant and Recyclable Thermal Plastic)’, won the ‘Top 10 Technology’ Excellence Award at the global plastics and rubber exhibition Chinaplas 2026. It was the sole recipient of the award among participating Korean companies.
Following its selection for ‘Innovation of the Year’ at Chinaplas 2025 last year, HRTP has been recognized for its technological competitiveness at the global exhibition for two consecutive years.
The judging panel cited as key reasons for the selection the fact that the ultra-high polymerization HRTP material demonstrates excellent performance in flexibility, flame retardancy, and abrasion resistance, and has a solid application base, making it suitable for uses such as electric vehicle charging cables.
While based on PVC, which has been perceived as a general-purpose material, HRTP is a specialty material that simultaneously achieves the heat resistance, flexibility, and durability required by next-generation industries such as electric vehicles and robots. It can be applied to EV charging cables and high-heat-resistant wires for automobiles and robots, and it can ensure stable performance even in high-voltage and high-temperature environments, along with approximately 30% improved flexibility compared to existing materials.
Furthermore, with its soft texture and abrasion resistance, its use is gradually increasing as an alternative to other expensive materials in markets for automotive artificial leather and seats. HRTP achieves high performance without the need for a cross-linking process to chemically set its structure, and it is also recyclable. Consequently, it is regarded as a high-value-added material that meets the demands for high functionality, safety, and sustainability.
Meanwhile, LG Chem also received an Excellence Award at this exhibition for its eco-friendly packaging material, ‘UNIQABLE™’. The judging panel cited as key selection factors UNIQABLE™’s prominent effect in reducing plastic usage and its leading performance in terms of environmental protection and commercialization.
