K‑Beauty Eye Makeup Exports Extend Growth Streak in Q1 2026

[4] Q1 2026 Export Analysis of K‑Beauty Eye Makeup

K‑beauty eye makeup continues to solidify its position as a key export driver, posting year‑on‑year growth for consecutive quarters.

According to BeautyEconomy’s analysis of Korea Customs Service data for eye makeup products (HS Code 330420), both total Q1 exports and March shipments in 2026 exceeded last year’s figures, underscoring steady momentum in the category.

■ Q1 Shows Strong Momentum… Trade Surplus Expands

Total exports of eye makeup in Q1 2026 reached USD 48.84 million, up 6.3% year‑on‑year from USD 45.93 million in the same period last year.

Notably, the trade surplus widened to USD 38.35 million, compared with USD 35.90 million a year earlier, reflecting improvements in both scale and profitability.

March alone recorded exports of USD 17.77 million, surpassing March 2025 (USD 17.23 million). The monthly trade surplus stood at USD 13.23 million, confirming a stable upward trajectory.

■ Japan, the U.S., and China Drive the Export Engine

In March, the top three export destinations—Japan, the United States, and China—accounted for more than half of total shipments. While this highlights strong concentration among core markets, it also points to the need for further volume expansion in emerging regions such as Australia and Europe.

Japan ranked first with USD 4.38 million in exports, reaffirming the competitiveness of K‑beauty eye makeup in a market known for strong demand for eye shadows and mascaras.

The United States followed closely with USD 3.90 million, emerging as a key growth engine alongside basic skincare. The trade surplus with the U.S. reached USD 3.64 million, reflecting a highly favorable export structure.

China placed third with exports totaling USD 3.18 million. Although its share has declined compared with previous years, China remains one of the most important export markets for K‑beauty eye makeup.

By contrast, France—despite entering the top 10 export destinations—recorded imports exceeding USD 1.1 million, resulting in a trade deficit.

■ Expansion to Australia and France Signals Global Reach of K‑Eye Makeup

Signs of market diversification are becoming increasingly evident. Singapore (USD 0.93 million) and Taiwan (USD 0.64 million) maintained their positions at fourth and fifth place, respectively, while Australia climbed to sixth with USD 0.56 million, highlighting growth potential in the Oceania region.

Meanwhile, France—the birthplace of modern cosmetics—ranked 10th with USD 0.35 million in exports, signaling gradual penetration into the European market. However, France posted a USD 0.74 million trade deficit, as imports outweighed exports, suggesting that further structural adjustments may be needed.
