The initiative aims to establish an autonomous drug discovery system capable of carrying out the entire development process -- from target identification to the discovery of preclinical candidate compounds. Specialized AI agents based on large language models (LLMs) will collaborate over a 57-month period, supported by about 17.7 billion won ($11.8 million) in government funding.
GC Biopharma will be responsible for “platform validation,” a role involving the experimental verification and optimization of candidate compounds generated by the AI platform. Through this process, the company aims to improve the predictive accuracy of AI drug discovery models and help shorten the timeline for identifying new drug candidates.
“Leveraging GC Biopharma’s accumulated expertise in drug development, we will do our utmost to enhance the sophistication of the AI platform and strengthen the global competitiveness of Korea’s biotech industry,” said Jung Jae-wook, head of R&D at GC Biopharma.
Yonsei University will be in overall charge of the project. AI platform development will be carried out by AIGEN Sciences, HITS, MOGAM Institute for Biomedical Research, and the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, while platform validation will be conducted by GC Biopharma, Daewoong Pharmaceutical, and Yonsei University.
