CHA Biotech said Tuesday it has entered into a collaboration with Miltenyi Biotec, a global leader in cell and gene therapy manufacturing, to develop allogeneic CAR-NK (chimeric antigen receptor–natural killer) cell therapies.
Under the agreement, Miltenyi Biotec will produce and supply lentiviral vectors to CHA Biotech. The company brings expertise in lentiviral vector engineering and manufacturing, including its BaEV (baboon envelope) platform, which enhances gene delivery efficiency while reducing production costs compared to conventional methods.
The BaEV platform targets ASCT1 and ASCT2 receptors, which are naturally expressed on NK cells, thereby significantly improving gene transduction efficiency. This enables the stable production of highly potent CAR-NK therapies while dramatically reducing vector use, ultimately lowering manufacturing costs and improving scalability for commercial production.
Leveraging the supplied lentiviral vectors, CHA Biotech will advance the development of its CAR-NK-based anticancer cell therapy candidate, CHACAR-NK-201.
The company is also expanding clinical research on autologous NK cell therapies targeting solid tumors, including liver cancer, glioblastoma, and triple-negative breast cancer, using its proprietary NK cell culture technology. Building on enhanced lentiviral gene delivery capabilities, CHA Biotech aims to accelerate its next-generation immunotherapy pipeline.
CAR-NK therapies, which utilize NK cells derived from healthy donors, can be manufactured as off-the-shelf products in large quantities. This positions them as next-generation cancer immunotherapies with significantly improved accessibility compared to CAR-T therapies, which require complex, costly, patient-specific manufacturing processes.
Miltenyi Biotec CEO Boris Stoffel said, “We expect strong synergy between CHA Biotech’s R&D capabilities and our innovative lentiviral vector platform. This collaboration will help improve both the development and manufacturing of CAR-NK therapies.”
Nam Soo-yeon, head of R&D at CHA Biotech, said, “CHA Biotech is developing CAR-NK therapies targeting the global market. Through this partnership with Miltenyi Biotec, we aim to establish a faster and more reliable manufacturing platform for CAR-NK therapies.”
In 2025, CHA Biotech collaborated with Miltenyi Biotec Korea to develop an automated, large-scale manufacturing process for allogeneic CAR-NK therapies. Through this effort, the company secured globally compliant, automated, and standardized manufacturing technologies, accelerating both high-quality CAR-NK production and next-generation immunotherapy research.
