[June 3 Local Elections] Democratic Party Leadership and Senior Members Turn Out in Wando… ‘Firepower Support’ for Candidate Woo Hong-seop

Chung Cheong-rae, Min Hyung-bae, Park Ji-won, and Others Hold Intensive Campaign at Oil Market… “Will Take Responsibility for Revitalizing Wando’s Abalone Industry and Constructing Bridges” - Kim Won-i, Chairman of the South Jeolla Provincial Party Committee, Declares, “Rejoining Independent Candidates Who Repeatedly Depart”

At the intensive campaign rally held at the Wando Oil Market on the 30th, Party Leader Chung Cheong-rae, Min Hyung-bae (candidate for the integrated Gwangju-Jeonnam Special City Mayor), National Assembly member Park Ji-won, and Kim Won-i, Chairman of the South Jeolla Provincial Party Committee, attended in large numbers to declare their full support for Candidate Woo Hong-seop and set out to win over voters.

Party Leader Jeong Cheong-rae, who delivered the first support speech, expressed a strong determination to revive the abalone industry, a key pending issue in the Wando region. Representative Jeong garnered a strong positive response from the county residents by declaring, “I will definitely revive Wando’s abalone industry,” and “I will personally become the director of the ‘Wando Dahae Dream Center’ to help with Wando’s development.”

Representative Jeong continued, “The Democratic Party will take responsibility for and push forward with the construction of the Geumil-Yaksan bridge, a long-cherished project for Wando,” and appealed, “Please choose Candidate Woo Hong-seop, who possesses overwhelming power, so that the Democratic Party can take responsibility for Wando’s future.”

Min Hyung-bae, the candidate for the unified Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City Mayor, also lent his support by presenting concrete alternatives to overcome the crisis. Candidate Min promised, “I will purchase the entire 4,000 tons of abalone currently backed up, which is causing deep distress among fishermen, to stabilize market prices as soon as possible.”

He stated, “If elected as the Mayor of the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City, I will prioritize securing the relevant budget to definitely save Wando’s abalone industry, which is currently in crisis.” Regarding Candidate Woo’s pledged ‘basic income for rural and fishing communities,’ he emphasized, “I will responsibly back the initiative by establishing a systematic support system at the level of the Integrated Special City to secure funding.” In addition, he pledged the swift implementation of causeway and land-connection projects to improve residents’ living conditions.

During the rally, the central party’s official stance on the ‘post-election return to the party’ theory regarding independent candidate Kim Shin, which has recently emerged as a major point of contention in local politics, was also clearly established.

Kim Won-i, Chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee, firmly stated, “Candidate Woo Hong-seop is the only Democratic Party candidate for Wando County Governor who was chosen by the county residents and party members through three legitimate primary elections.” He strongly warned, “The return to the Democratic Party of an independent candidate who has shaken the party’s discipline by repeatedly defecting in the past will absolutely not be permitted in the future.”

Woo Hong-seop, the last candidate to take the podium for Wando County Governor, heightened the excitement of the rally by declaring, “The gathering of the leading figures driving South Korea’s legislation and local administration in Wando today marks the prelude to a new leap forward for Wando and the ‘Second Era of Cheonghaejin.’”

Candidate Woo emphasized, “The power of a single county governor alone cannot resolve the region’s massive long-standing projects,” adding, “Only when the ‘Democratic Party One Team’—comprising the government, the National Assembly, South Jeolla Province, and the soon-to-be-launched Integrated Special City—moves organically can we change Wando’s future.”

He continued by asking for full support, stating, “I will certainly complete all the pledged tasks—from the revitalization of the abalone industry and the early commencement of land-connection projects to the introduction of a basic income for rural communities, the creation of youth jobs, and the revitalization of the marine healing industry—based on the Democratic Party’s formidable political execution power.”
