“Shared Parenting, Happy Gwangju”: 8th Gwangju 100 Dads Corps Officially Launched

Inauguration Ceremony and Sports Day Held at Bandabi Sports Center in Nam-gu on the 26th - Leading the Spread of a Family-Centered Care Culture by Performing Various Missions Until December

(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Gwangju Metropolitan City has embarked on a full-scale initiative to encourage fathers’ participation in childcare and foster a healthy care culture.

Gwangju City and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association announced that they successfully held the “Inauguration Ceremony (Photo) and Sports Day for the 8th Gwangju 100 Dads Corps” at the Bandabi Sports Center in Nam-gu on the 26th.

Hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Gwangju City, and organized by the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association, the event was attended by approximately 150 people, including members of the 8th Dads Corps and their families. Going beyond a simple commemorative ceremony, the event was designed as a participatory program for the whole family to enjoy together. Prior to the main event, pre-ceremony programs tailored to children's interests, such as circus performances and photo zone experiences, were held and received a great response. During the subsequent athletic activities, fathers and children spent time building bonds through a variety of activities including warm-up exercises, tunnel crossing, and board flipping.

At the inauguration ceremony, the members shared their sense of responsibility as members of the "100 Dads Corps" through the presentation of appointment certificates and the reading of a declaration. In particular, the "Together Parenting Performance," in which all attendees participated, served as an opportunity to reaffirm the value of shared parenting—where parents participate together rather than the sole burden of childcare.

The newly selected 8th cohort of the "100 Dads Corps" will continue their official activities until this coming December. They are expected to play an active role as practical parenting leaders in the Gwangju region by carrying out parenting missions in their daily lives and participating in various experiential programs.

Choi Kyung-hwa, Director of the Gwangju City Women and Family Affairs Bureau, stated, "I hope that through the activities of the Gwangju 100 Dads Corps, parenting will become established as a natural part of daily life," adding, "The city will actively support the spread of a family culture where both children and parents are happy."
