Chungbuk Technopark Secures Structural Safety for InAir Military VTOL Drone through Simulation Technology Support
The Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center at Chungbuk Technopark is achieving tangible results in strengthening the technological competitiveness of local manufacturing companies through the "Chungbuk-Cheongju Process Innovation Simulation Center Operation Project," which is being pursued in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, North Chungcheong Province, and Cheongju City.
InAir, a drone specialist company that received simulation technology support from the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center, has secured a core technological foundation for verifying structural safety and optimizing flight performance—essential elements in the development of VTOL tactical drones.
Previously, InAir faced difficulties in design improvement and ensuring safety during the V-TOL airframe prototype manufacturing process due to a lack of quantitative verification data regarding structural loads, vibrations, and complex loads resulting from flight mode switching in actual operating environments. In response, Chungbuk Technopark provided full support using structural simulation technology based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Through this support, InAir Co., Ltd. verified the structural safety of the drone frame by precisely analyzing the V-TOL airframe's self-weight, flight load, impact upon landing, and natural frequency, and established design improvements capable of significantly enhancing flight reliability.
The Head of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center at Chungbuk Technopark emphasized that process innovation simulation is a core technology that verifies structural defects that may occur during the product development stage in advance, thereby reducing development time and costs and improving quality completeness. He added that the center will continue to steadily expand customized simulation support to enhance the technological competitiveness of various manufacturing companies in the region.
