Chungbuk Office of Education Strengthens Safety Management for Students and Staff Amid Continuous Heatwave

The Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education has issued enhanced safety management measures to schools at all levels and initiated a response to protect the health and safety of students and staff from the continuous heatwave.

This measure was implemented to prevent heat-related illnesses and create a safe educational environment, as the "Severe" heatwave crisis alert level persists and Level 2 Emergency of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters has been activated.

The Chungbuk Office of Education has established a policy to refrain from outdoor experiential learning and physical activities and switch to alternative indoor programs if a heatwave advisory is issued during the summer vacation. In addition, measures have been taken to maintain appropriate cooling temperatures in after-school care classrooms and indoor activity spaces, and to frequently inspect the operational status of cooling equipment.

Furthermore, the office urged adherence to on-site heat-related illness prevention guidelines for students participating in after-school care classes, as well as facility management and cleaning workers, by providing guidance on sufficient hydration and rest, and supplying ice water and cooling equipment. In preparation for the start of the second semester, classroom air conditioning facilities and power systems will be re-inspected by the 10th. Additionally, cooperation was requested to maintain an emergency communication system between the Office of Education and schools until September 30, when the heatwave countermeasures period ends, to ensure a swift response in the event of any abnormalities.

An official from the Chungbuk Office of Education emphasized that they will thoroughly respond to the heatwave situation while prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff. They stated that they will do their utmost to prevent heat-related illnesses and create a safe educational environment through close cooperation with schools.
