Chungbuk Office of Education Launches 'Chungbuk Now After-School Care' to Minimize Care Gaps During Summer Vacation

The Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education is fully operating the 'Chungbuk Now After-School Care' program throughout the province to eliminate care gaps for students during the summer vacation and to expand future-oriented education opportunities based on AI and digital technology.

The Office of Education announced that 256 elementary schools in the province, hub-type after-school care centers in Cheongju, Chungju, and Jecheon, and local communities are joining forces to provide future-oriented programs and community-linked experiential activities. In particular, tangible policy effects are emerging, such as an increase of approximately 15% in participating students from the third grade compared to the previous year, thanks to the after-school program voucher support policy implemented for third-grade elementary students.

The hub-type after-school care centers established in Cheongju, Chungju, and Jecheon provide a safe environment through school bus operations and the provision of meals and snacks, and currently accommodate up to 320 students per day. The Cheongju Gyeongdeok Elementary School Center is receiving a great response from students and parents by showcasing specialized programs such as robotics science and AI drawing; the Chungju Yongsan Elementary School Center offers courses on AI robots, 3D printing, and university-linked autonomous driving; and the Jecheon Uirim Elementary School Center features AI coding and content creation.

Learning and care utilizing local infrastructure are also actively continuing beyond the school walls. The Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education is supporting diverse experiential activities within residential areas by collaborating with local governments, universities, public institutions, and community children's centers. Approximately 1,160 participants from 11 cities and counties in the province are taking part in the "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind" program, which promotes physical health and emotional stability, enjoying activities that highlight regional characteristics such as indoor climbing, drones, forest experiences, and AI exploration classes. 256 elementary schools in the province are also providing after-school and care programs to approximately 22,300 students, creating a safe care environment by providing meals and snacks to about 9,500 of them. The Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education plans to continue strengthening the after-school and care system that combines schools and the local community to steadily expand future-oriented education and customized experiential activities.

Ha Jae-sook, Head of the Finance and Welfare Division at the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education, emphasized that summer vacation should be a precious time for children's learning and growth to continue, rather than a gap in care. She stated that the office will spare no support to ensure all students can enjoy safe and high-quality educational benefits, based on the comprehensive care system established through the collaboration of schools and the local community.
