(Break News Jeonnam-Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Choi Jeong-hoon, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan Council, attended the ‘2026 Regional Parent Association Executive Capacity Building Workshop’ held at the Jangheung County Citizens’ Hall on the 14th. He delivered a congratulatory speech and urged active participation and cooperation from parent associations for the development of the educational community.

Organized by the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, this workshop was held to enhance the capabilities of executives of regional parent associations and to strengthen the foundation for communication and cooperation that organically connects schools, homes, and the local community. In his congratulatory remarks, Chairman Choi Jeong-hun emphasized, “Children can grow up healthy and respected when their families, schools, and communities work together,” adding that “Parent-Teacher Associations are the most important educational partners connecting schools and families.”

Chairman Choi then addressed the grave reality currently facing the field of education. He stated, “The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City is currently facing complex challenges, including a declining school-age population and regional extinction, alongside a rapidly changing industrial environment involving artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and eco-friendly energy.” He continued, “We must all work together to create a safe and supportive educational environment and future-competency-centered education so that our children can grow into creative talents who will lead the region’s future.”

He also clearly expressed the council’s commitment to providing policy and financial support. Chairman Choi promised, “The Education Committee of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Council will seamlessly support the growth of all students by resolving disparities in educational conditions between regions, creating an AI and digital-based educational environment, providing career and vocational education linked to regional strategic industries, and offering comprehensive care and educational welfare support.”

Emphasizing the importance of communication with the educational field, Chairman Choi stated, “Education policies truly gain strength only when voices from the field are added. The experiences and suggestions of parents, who are closest to their children’s learning and growth, will serve as a valuable foundation for establishing policies tailored to the changing environment.”

Finally, Chairman Choi added, “I will carefully review relevant systems and budgets to ensure that schools and parents can cooperate based on deep trust,” and expressed his hope that “this workshop will serve as a meaningful opportunity to broaden communication among local parent associations and jointly design the future of education in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.”
