Jeungpyeong-gun to Host Free Special Exhibition and Experience Programs on the Evolution of Cameras at the Reading King Kim Deuk-sin Literature Museum
The Reading King Kim Deuk-sin Literature Museum in Jeungpyeong-gun, in collaboration with the Chungwon University Museum, will hold a special exhibition titled "The World Inside the Box," which covers the history of cameras, from August 4 to October 10.
This exhibition was planned to shed light on the evolution of the camera, which has developed beyond a simple photographic tool into a medium that records individual lives and social scenes, and shares memories.
A total of 38 types of devices will be on display, ranging from classic cameras used in the early 1900s to modern smartphone cameras. Visitors can examine the form and functional evolution of cameras by era and see at a glance the influence and value that photographic culture has had on our lives.
The exhibition space is organized into four themes: "Box of Records," "Box of Daily Life," "Box of Communication," and "Box of Memory." Each thematic zone sequentially showcases the role of cameras as recording media that captures life and social events, the value of photography in making mundane daily life special, cameras transformed into real-time communication tools through video calls and social networking services, and their significance as a medium that preserves memories across generations.
A rich array of hands-on experience programs for visitors is also prepared. These include "Observing Developed Film," which explores the principles of image recording, and the "Receipt Instant Camera Shooting and Photo Wall" experience, where visitors take photos printed in the form of receipts and attach them to the exhibition's photo wall to create a collective record.
On October 10, the final day of the exhibition, a film music performance titled "Melody Captured on Film" will be held in conjunction with the Jeungpyeong Ginseng Festival, promising to offer visitors a special memory. Admission to this exhibition is free for all visitors to the Literature Museum.
An official from the Chungwon University Museum stated that this exhibition is an opportunity to not only examine the evolution of cameras through different eras but also to directly experience how cameras have connected daily life and memories. They expressed hope that visitors would discover the meaningful stories contained within cameras through the diverse exhibits and experiences.
