South Jeolla Province Secures ‘Sodam Square,’ a Digital Transformation Hub for Small Business Owners, and Secures 4.5 Billion Won in State Funding

Dedicated Live Commerce Infrastructure to be Established in the Mokpo MBC Building Area... Supporting 500 Companies Over 6 Years, Offering ‘All-out Effort’ to Strengthen Self-Reliance of Small Business Owners, From AI Commerce Education to Mutual Growth Insurance Support

(Muan·Suncheon = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province announced that it has been finally selected for the ‘New Establishment of a Digital Commerce Specialized Institution (Sodam Square)’ public contest project, organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Small Business & Venture Corporation.

‘Sodam Square’ is a project to create a regional hub to assist small business owners in their digital transformation. The facility will house a live commerce broadcasting studio, conference rooms, and shared educational spaces, playing a comprehensive support role to help small business owners successfully settle into the online market. In this open call, Jeollanam-do successfully secured the project by strategically responding to the competition, forming a consortium led by a local terrestrial broadcaster and including cities and counties, the Jeonnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, and Namdo Market.

Following the selection, Jeollanam-do will receive a total of 4.5 billion won in state funding over the next six years. Through this, the province plans to establish a 714-square-meter dedicated live commerce infrastructure in the area surrounding the Mokpo MBC building and the nearby Bohae shopping complex.

Based on this established infrastructure, the province intends to systematically provide services to over 500 small business owners in the province, including live commerce production and broadcasting, AI commerce training, and specialized marketing programs.

Kim Hyung-sung, Head of the Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups Division at Jeollanam-do, emphasized, "This project will serve as a significant turning point, providing new business opportunities for local small business owners. We will do our utmost to ensure substantial revenue growth and self-reliance for small business owners by strengthening their digital commerce capabilities." Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province was also finally selected for the Financial Services Commission’s ‘Insurance Sector-Local Government Mutual Growth Insurance Project’ last March, and plans to simultaneously implement support measures to alleviate the burden of insurance premiums for small business owners.
