Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Introduces ‘Reusable Containers’ to Funeral Homes… Stepping Up to Spread Eco-friendly Resource Recycling Culture
Signed MOU with Green & Best Funeral Culture Centers, Pilot Project Begins in Earnest on the 10th - Professional cleaning companies manage the entire process of supply, disinfection, and collection… “Safe and hygienic”
- From festivals to funeral homes… Plans to expand to the entire Gwangju and Jeonnam regions in the future
(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City is launching a ‘Reusable Container Support Project’ in earnest to significantly reduce the use of single-use items in funeral homes and spread an eco-friendly resource recycling culture in daily life.
In observance of ‘No Single-use Items Day’ (the 10th of every month), Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City announced that it signed a ‘Business Agreement for the Promotion of Reusable Container Use in Funeral Homes’ with Green Funeral Culture Center Co., Ltd. and Best Funeral Culture Center Co., Ltd., and commenced the pilot project on this day. This pilot project will initially be implemented at two locations: the Green Funeral Culture Center in Yongjeon-dong, Buk-gu, and the Best Funeral Culture Center in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu. Under the agreement, all existing disposable tableware provided to mourners in the reception rooms of these funeral homes will be replaced with eco-friendly reusable containers.
Funeral homes have long been identified as major "disposable waste generators" due to the nature of attracting a large number of mourners over a short period. The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City expects this project to not only significantly reduce the amount of indiscriminately discarded waste but also serve as an opportunity to establish an eco-friendly funeral culture and awareness of resource recycling within the region.
In particular, to completely prevent hygiene issues that citizens may be concerned about, a professional cleaning company will systematically manage the entire process, from supply and collection to cleaning, disinfection, and resupply. Through this, the city plans to create a safe and hygienic environment where users can use the facilities with peace of mind.
** Under this agreement, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City plans to oversee the project and provide full administrative and financial support, while participating funeral homes will take charge of operating funeral rooms dedicated to reusable containers, securing storage space, and guiding visitors to ensure the successful establishment of the initiative.
An official from the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City stated, "We have previously received a positive response by conducting reusable container support projects centered on festivals and large-scale event venues," adding, "We plan to closely gather feedback from the field and the results of this pilot project to gradually expand the number of participating funeral homes throughout Gwangju and Jeonnam."
