(Break News Gwangju·Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party of Korea’s candidate for the Integrated Mayor of Jeonnam and Gwangju, presented a vision to develop the “Jeonnam-Gwangju Type Basic Society” into a standard model leading South Korea.

Candidate Min made these remarks during a congratulatory speech at the “Jeonnam-Gwangju Type Basic Society Policy Forum,” held on the 30th at the Gwangju City Council Special Committee on Budget and Accounts.

On this day, Candidate Min stated, “Jeonnam and Gwangju possess the optimal assets to enable the experimentation and expansion of the Basic Society,” citing abundant renewable energy resources, the experience of close-knit communities, and the historical foundation of democracy as the basis for this claim.

In particular, he emphasized the need for a welfare model that responds to the rapidly changing technological environment. Candidate Min emphasized, “In an era where AI is rapidly transforming industries and lives, the lives of citizens must be supported with even greater stability,” adding that “the Jeonnam-Gwangju model of a basic society can go beyond mere regional policy and become a future model for the entire Republic of Korea.”

He continued by stating that “growth and distribution are inseparable tasks,” and promised to “definitely establish a virtuous cycle structure where the achievements of industrial transformation lead to tangible improvements in citizens’ income and quality of life.”

Co-hosted by the Rural Basic Income Movement Headquarters and the Bitgoeul Namdo Forum, this forum was held to discuss policy directions for a region-centered basic society aligned with the era of AI and energy transition.

Kang Nam-hoon, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Basic Society (Professor Emeritus at Hanshin University), served as a presenter and delivered a presentation on “The Great AI Transformation and the Basic Society,” while Professor Lee Soon-hyung of Dongshin University spoke on the topic of “Energy Basic Income.” During the subsequent discussion, in-depth debates took place regarding ways to integrate social safety nets to respond to technological changes.

Candidate Min Hyung-bae stated, “I will actively participate in discussions that open a new path of transition for Jeonnam and Gwangju to a ‘basic society,’” adding, “I hope that the ideas proposed today will not remain merely declarative but will be implemented as policies that function practically on the ground in the region.”
