Min Hyung-bae, Mayor-elect of the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City, Takes First Step by Paying Respects at the May 18 Cemetery… “Will Build a Government of Citizen Sovereignty”

Attended Certificate of Election Presentation Ceremony on the Morning of the 4th… Pledged, “I Will Deeply Bear the Weight of the Command from the Citizens of the Special City”

(Break News Gwangju·Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate elected as the first Mayor of the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City, has begun preparations for his full-scale launch by paying respects at the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery and receiving his certificate of election as his first official step after his election.

On the morning of the 4th, the day following the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections, Mayor-elect Min Hyung-bae visited the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery with other Democratic Party of Korea candidates elected for the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City and conducted a joint tribute. During the memorial service on this day, Mayor-elect Min wrote in the guestbook, “I uphold the will of the May martyrs. I will transform the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City into a government of citizen sovereignty and advance toward a world of great harmony where we all prosper together,” paying tribute to the noble sacrifices of the democratic martyrs.

In his subsequent remarks, Mayor-elect Min announced the historic launch of the Integrated Special City, stating, “I report the first step of the great history of the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju to the May martyrs first.” He further emphasized, “What May Gwangju taught us is that the owners of the nation are the sovereign citizens, and that democracy ultimately advances through the power of the citizens,” thereby firmly establishing a ‘citizen-centered’ administrative philosophy.

After concluding his visit to the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery, Mayor-elect Min immediately moved to the Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Commission to attend the certificate of election presentation ceremony, where he officially received his certificate of election as the Mayor of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.

Upon receiving the certificate of election, Mayor-elect Min expressed a heavy sense of responsibility. He expressed his sentiments, stating, “I have received a glorious certificate of election,” and added, “This single certificate contains the choice, expectations, and mandate of the citizens of the Special City. I will engrave its weight deeply in my heart.”

Regarding the future direction of city administration, he further expressed a strong ambition, saying, “I will establish a government of citizen sovereignty where the administration follows the decisions of the citizens, and I will create an integrated special city where citizens’ lives actually improve.”

With the official launch of the ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated Special City’ scheduled for July 1, Mayor-elect Min has raised ‘citizen sovereignty’ and ‘Great Harmony’ as key themes. As a result, preparations for the launch of the city administration, such as the formation of the Integrated Special City Prime Minister’s Office and the Transition Committee, are expected to gain further momentum.
