(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Premium kimchi from Gwangju, the "Home of Taste in Korea," and excellent agricultural products from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions are coming to consumers in the metropolitan area.

Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will operate the "Gwangju Kimchi Pop-up Store" at "The Hyundai Seoul" in Yeouido, Seoul, for one week from the 12th to the 18th. Held for the second time following last year, this event was organized to widely promote the excellence of Gwangju Kimchi to the metropolitan area and expand sales channels, while also strengthening mutual cooperation between the two cities and provinces and fostering a consensus on integration ahead of the launch of the "Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City" this coming July.

This pop-up store brings together masterpieces by five Korean Food Masters who have preserved traditional flavors, as well as traditional kimchi from the winner of the Presidential Award at the Gwangju Kimchi Festival, along with unique kimchi merchandise and food pairings designed to appeal to the tastes of the younger generation. The plan is to showcase the flavors and aesthetics of Namdo cuisine reinterpreted with a modern sensibility.

At the venue, Master Kim Hyo-suk, who won the Presidential Award at the Gwangju Kimchi Festival, will participate to present distinctive premium products such as "Mudeungsan Watermelon Water Kimchi," which captures the pristine nature of Namdo. In addition, the Bitgoeul Kimchi Farming Cooperative plans to sell "Kimchi" products boasting a spicy and deep flavor, targeting the younger demographic.

Special "flavor pairing" foods have also been prepared to provide a richer culinary experience for consumers visiting the site. Gwangju Food Co., Ltd., an agricultural corporation, plans to captivate the taste buds of consumers in the metropolitan area by showcasing "Samdae Boneless Jokbal," which boasts the perfect pairing with kimchi. In addition, they are adding a touch of fun to traditional culture by introducing stylish kimchi merchandise, such as kimchi socks and stickers, targeting the MZ generation.

Visitors can find not only products from local small business owners but also masterpieces by Korea's Food Masters representing Gwangju and Jeonnam all in one place. The participating Food Masters are Seo Min-soo (Korea Tea Manufacturing), Park Soon-ae (Damyang Hangwa Myeongjin Food), Ahn Bok-ja (Ahn Bok-ja Hangwa), Im Hwa-ja (Im Hwa-ja Traditional Food), and Kim Young-sook (Jindo Traditional Food). The plan is to actively promote the unrivaled excellence of Namdo agricultural products through traditional foods imbued with their craftsmanship. During the event, a wide variety of tasting events, discount sales, and participatory activities will be held to allow visitors to experience the deep flavor and outstanding quality of Gwangju Kimchi firsthand.

Gwangju City expects this event to go beyond simply promoting local specialties and become a "platform for mutual growth" aligned with the shared future of the integration of Gwangju and Jeonnam. It is anticipated that jointly promoting excellent agricultural products from both cities and provinces in the heart of Seoul will further solidify the foundation for mutual cooperation and serve as a stepping stone for local farms and food companies to secure nationwide competitiveness.
