Governor Kim Young-rok Inspects Yeosu Island Expo Sub-venues ‘Geumodo and Gaeodo’… “Ready to Handle Tourists”

Examined preparations for major facilities such as Geumodo’s Biryeonggil and Gaeodo’s Island Fishing Village Culture Center, as well as healing and experience programs - South Jeolla Province Makes All-Out Effort to Revitalize Island Tourism, Including ‘Half-Price Support’ for Ferry Fares and Island Travel

(Muan/Yeosu = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province, Yeosu City, and the Organizing Committee of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo visited Geumodo and Gaeodo, the sub-venues of the Expo, to conduct an intensive inspection of major facilities and readiness to accommodate tourists.

According to South Jeolla Province, Governor Kim Young-rok personally toured the construction sites of Geumodo’s Biryeonggil and campsite, as well as the Gaeodo Island Fishing Village Culture Center, on the 22nd, closely examining the status of program operations and measures regarding transportation, accommodation, and safety. At Geumodo, one of the sub-venues, healing and wellness activities, as well as island gourmet content, are scheduled to be operated centering on the Biryeonggil trekking trail, a representative tourist attraction. On this day, Governor Kim visited participating businesses for the "Island 1 Night, 3 Meals" program and the "Island Healing Table"—programs that are garnering high expectations for combining food and accommodation—to check the preparation status of the Bangpung Makgeolli brewing experience and island food experience programs.

Gaedo, another sub-venue, is being transformed into a space where visitors can directly feel and experience the island's nature, centered around the Island Fishing Village Culture Center and Seomseom Camping Ground. Currently, the Seom Fishing Village Culture Center has recorded a completion rate of 92% and finishing work is in full swing, while the construction of infrastructure facilities such as the camping ground and Witchwood Park is also accelerating.

On Gaedo, plans are underway to welcome visitors with emotional content that combines the island's nature with art, including Seomseom Camping, healing programs such as graffiti exhibitions and experiences, art exhibitions & trekking, and yoga & Pilates, as well as the "Night of Art Festival." Governor Kim Young-rok, who inspected the site, emphasized, “Geumodo and Gaedo will become key spaces during the Island Expo where visitors can walk, rest, and experience the charms of the islands to the fullest.” He urged officials to “make full use of the unique characteristics of each island, such as its nature, culture, food, and art.” He further requested, “Please ensure thorough preparations on-site, especially regarding transportation, accommodation, and safety, so that tourists do not experience any inconvenience.”

Meanwhile, South Jeolla Province plans to significantly expand experiential tourism content for a total of 17 islands, including 12 islands in the Yeosu region and 5 representative islands of the province. Along with this, the province plans to fully implement initiatives such as half-price ferry fare subsidies and half-price island travel support, dedicating its full efforts to revitalizing island tourism through this expo.
