South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok to Visit Japan on the 27th… Seeking 'Future Growth Engines' Including G20 Hosting and Post-Expo Utilization

Meeting with Osaka Prefecture Governor and Expo Inspection… 3-Night, 4-Day Schedule Including Strategizing for the 2028 G20 Summit and Island Expo, Meeting with the Tokyo Honam Association, Inspecting Solar Power Facilities, and Signing MOUs for Agricultural and Fishery Food Exports

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok (pictured) will embark on a 3-night, 4-day visit to Japan starting on the 27th to strengthen cooperation in Jeonnam's future industries and expand exchanges between local governments.

This visit was organized to broaden the foundation for international cooperation and support Jeonnam's core future growth strategies, including exploring strategies for the post-expo utilization of international expos, expanding exports of Jeonnam-produced agricultural and fishery products to the Japanese market, and inspecting advanced renewable energy practices. On the 27th, the first day of his visit, Governor Kim will meet with Osaka Prefecture Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura in Osaka to begin his official schedule. During the meeting, the two governors are scheduled to exchange in-depth views on experiences hosting international expos and post-event utilization plans, as well as the know-how gained from hosting the 2019 G20 Summit in Osaka.

In particular, the plan is to actively utilize the shared success stories—linking urban operations, safety management, and the establishment of international cooperation systems during large-scale international events to regional economic revitalization and city brand enhancement—to formulate strategies for attracting and operating the ‘2028 G20 Summit,’ a key initiative being pursued by Jeonnam Province. Following this, he will hold a meeting with officials from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Osaka to discuss expanding exchanges between Korean and Japanese local governments and cooperation measures with the Korean community in Japan.

On the 28th, he will visit the Sakishima Government Building in Osaka to hear about plans for utilizing the venue for the ‘2025 Osaka-Kansai International Expo’ and the progress of the Integrated Resort (IR) project. As Jeonnam Province is currently preparing for the '2026 Yeosu World Island Expo,' it plans to intensively benchmark sustainable urban utilization strategies linked to the tourism and MICE industries following the expo's conclusion.

On the 29th, Governor Kim will travel to Tokyo to hold a "Hometown Love" meeting with the Tokyo Honam Hometown Association. Governor Kim is scheduled to explain Jeonnam's major provincial achievements and future vision to the members and request their active participation and cooperation in the Hometown Love Donation System.

Following this, he will visit an agricultural solar power facility in Chiba Prefecture to inspect a regional co-prosperity model that combines renewable energy with agriculture. Jeonnam Province, which possesses the nation's largest renewable energy production base and is currently pursuing the 'Great Energy Transition Policy,' plans to actively incorporate Japan's advanced practices into its provincial administration.

On the 30th, the final day of the visit, he will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a local Japanese distributor. Through this agreement, the province aims to expand the entry of Jeonnam's excellent agricultural and marine products and local specialties into the Japanese market and further solidify the foundation for cooperation to expand global distribution networks. Governor Kim Young-rok stated, “This visit to Japan will be an important opportunity to strengthen the foundation for cooperation with Japanese local governments and companies in various fields, including international expos, tourism and MICE industries, and renewable energy,” adding, “I will do my utmost to promote Jeonnam’s future growth strategy to the international community and ensure that it leads to tangible results in economic and tourism cooperation.”
